The New York Knicks are a lovable and amazing basketball team. They won Game 1 of the NBA Finals by coming back a 14-point deficit, and scoring the last 11 points of the game. They won Game 2 by a single point. It’s great viewing. It’s too bad the games go so late. The Knicks’ […]
President Donald Trump is planning to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals as his hometown team, the New York Knicks, host the San Antonio Spurs — one of the city’s hottest sports tickets in years.
Much of the criticism of President Donald Trump on the right is coming from Never Trump conservatives and libertarians, many of whom were scathing opponents of the MAGA movement from the get-go. Attorney George Conway, The Washington Post's George Will, MS NOW's Joe Scarbrough and The Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson were so anti-Trump that they left the Republican Party altogether. But Rich Logis' opposition to Trump is coming from a much different place. In Salon, the founder of Leaving MAGA details his journey from hardcore Trump supporter to Trump opponent — and his ongoing efforts to help others who have become disillusioned with the president and the MAGA movement."From 2015 until 2022," Logis explains in Salon, "I was a hardcore MAGA activist and pundit. I spoke at pro-Trump events. I wrote numerous op-eds, and even hosted a podcast dedicated to promoting all things Trump. I loved that he wanted to burn down the established political order. I felt that neither major political party cared for the working person. When Trump ran the first time and was elected against what seemed like impossible odds, it was exhilarating and new. It was also a communal experience. MAGA became my second family."The Leaving MAGA founder argues that Trump opponents shouldn't dismiss his supporters as a lost cause, but he emphasizes that quitting MAGA is a real struggle for those who have been true believers and are now questioning the movement."When I tell people I founded an organization that helps people leave Donald Trump‘s MAGA movement," Logis notes, "the response is often a derisive snort. 'Why waste your time on them?' people sometimes say. 'They're a lost cause. It's a cult.' I firmly believe that kind of dismissive contempt is misguided. In fact, I know it, on a profound personal level…. Recognizing that MAGA provides a strong sense of community is key to understanding its appeal."Logis continues, "Another integral element of MAGA's power is the pro-Trump media echo chamber. For several years, I got my information almost exclusively from Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and Breitbart. Everything outside the echo chamber, to my community, was Democratic Party propaganda…. It's hard to overstate the formidable power of believing the MAGA media's daily lies and distortions. I was addicted to rage and fear. Even though Trump had been elected president, I lived in a perpetual state of despair, desperation and paranoia."Logis cites anti-vaxxer propaganda during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Robb Elementary School massacre in Uvalde, Texas as two of the things that led to the creation of Leaving MAGA in 2022. And he is seeing others going through the same struggles he went through. "On the eve of America's 250th birthday, our democracy is in crisis," Logis warns. "I firmly believe the key to resolving it lies partly in forming unlikely but necessary alliances. Those who leave MAGA are worthy of our grace, and can become stewards of our democracy. We cannot afford to shun them."
The Knicks’ historic playoff run has more than doubled the value of the parent company’s stock, sending it to a new all-time high – and analysts are optimistic it could keep climbing after Game 3.
The New York Knicks return to Madison Square Garden Monday night, riding a historic 13-game playoff win streak with two wins from the NBA championship, but amid the excitement, President Donald Trump's attendance at Game 3 forced the cancellation of watch parties across New York City. MS NOW's "Morning Joe" panelists questioned whether Trump's attendance at the Knicks' first championship home game would disrupt the team's good fortunes. While co-host Mika Brzezinski noted the loss of organic fan gatherings and street celebrations that characterized the postseason. "I mean, people were going to party and then they were going to party outside Madison Square Garden. There were going to be post parties and pre-parties, and the streets were going to be filled with joy, and how is that still happening?"Journalist Pablo Torre, a longtime Knicks fan, worries Trump's attendance sours the game's mood. Hinting it could impact the Knicks' chances of winning their first championship since 1973.Torre criticized the exclusivity of Trump's VIP entrance through private tunnels, which is unavailable to regular fans; this, he argues, exemplifies broader affordability crises affecting sports and America. "I thought the Knicks were ours as a city, turns out none of it is ours," Torre said. "You can't even be outside. You can't even be outside, let alone inside, and so who's this for? What's it about?"Watch the video below. Your browser does not support the video tag.
Six people were hurt in a stabbing at New York City's Penn Station Sunday evening, the Associated Press reported, as President Donald Trump is set to attend Monday night's Game 3 NBA Finals matchup between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden — the storied entertainment venue located above Penn Station in the same midtown Manhattan complex.A suspect was taken into custody after the attack, which took place around 7 p.m., the AP said.'Penn Station is not known for being the most safe area, especially in the evening, especially with just how busy it’s been recently with the Knicks game [and] Trump coming.'Paramedics found one victim with serious injuries, two with moderate injuries, and two with minor injuries, the outlet said, citing the city's fire department. The AP said those five victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital, while another individual whose condition was not immediately known was taken to a separate hospital. In a roped-off area near Tracks 5 and 6, medical gloves, discarded bandages, and traces of blood still marked the floor Sunday night, the AP said.RELATED: Thug reportedly with 131 prior arrests just got charged with setting homeless man on fire while victim slept In addition to the huge crowds expected to descend upon Madison Square Garden for the first NBA Finals game there since 1999, Trump said he plans to attend the game as well, the outlet said. The president's plans prompted heightened security measures involving the Secret Service, the New York City Police Department, and other agencies around Madison Square Garden and surrounding blocks, the AP said. However, authorities did not immediately indicate if the stabbing would affect security plans for the game, the outlet noted.Sources told the New York Post that 51-year-old Hector Deleon "unleashed the unprovoked attack ... inside the New Jersey Transit boarding area."The Post said sources indicated that Deleon is believed to be homeless and was arrested in May in New Jersey on assault and narcotics charges. The paper said details of that arrest were not immediately available.Sources added to the Post that the victims of the stabbing attack were all men who range in age from 30 to 60 and were believed to be innocent bystanders.“Wow, I mean, I guess I’m not surprised, though," Sanai Rashid, 21, told the paper. "I mean, Penn Station is not known for being the most safe area, especially in the evening, especially with just how busy it’s been recently with the Knicks game [and] Trump coming. It’s been a bit of a messy summer in general. I think crime does go up as well, but I do think there probably should be more security in Penn Station, but that’s devastating.”The AP called Penn Station one of the nation’s busiest transportation hubs, which serves Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, NJ Transit, and New York City subway lines and is used by "hundreds of thousands of commuters and travelers each day."Like Blaze News?
