A Fox News columnist efforts to defend President Donald Trump Saturday morning saw him unwittingly align himself with the Black Lives Matter movement. Mike Davis, founder of an organization that purports to "fight lawfare" on Trump's behalf, told Fox News readers they should be outraged by police brutality. "If a police officer unlawfully beats a suspect without cause and violates his civil rights, that officer should face legal accountability," Davis told conservatives. Davis made this call for police accountability as protesters take to the streets in Madison, Wisconsin, where Corey Ruiz was tackled, tased, kicked and fatally shot three times Wednesday. While police say Ruiz, 38, pulled a knife, protesters who have taken to the streets contend the force was excessive. About 200 protesters marched through Madison Thursday night chanting "Black Lives Matter" and "These killer cops have got to go."His weeping mother told the media, "They took my baby from me." So why did Davis alert his readers to the problem of police brutality? Jack Smith — the special counsel who brought criminal charges against Trump, ahead of his 2025 reelection, on charges he mishandled classified documents and tried overturn the 2020 presidential election."Holding him accountable is not a threat to law enforcement; it is consistent with the rule of law," Davis said of his hypothetical violent officer. "The same applies to rogue prosecutors like Smith."He tried and failed to alter the outcome of the 2024 presidential election by prosecuting President Trump across two jurisdictions on two absurd indictments," Davis claimed. "It is inconceivable how holding him legally accountable for that conduct would threaten the Justice Department."

President Donald Trump is suddenly reneging on the terms of the Gordie Howe Bridge project after he claimed Ottawa “disinvited” U.S. officials from the Michigan–Ontario crossing’s grand opening.“Canada disinvited the United States of America to the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge, which is fine, considering they are paying substantial TARIFFS to the United States, but the original Deal on the Bridge, which was terribly negotiated by a previous Administration, no longer stands,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday. “We changed the terms of the Deal so that the United States of America now gets 50 percent of the Profit.”The Gordie Howe Bridge was the creation of a very different period in U.S.-Canadian relations. The international bridge was first proposed in the early 2000s and agreed upon by the two nations in 2012. Under the terms of that agreement, Canada would fully pay for the bridge to get the project moving forward and only share toll revenue once it had recovered its initial costs.At the time, President Barack Obama was revered by America’s northern neighbors, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were good. But Trump has worked hard to undo that long-standing goodwill. Over the last year and a half, the U.S. president has repeatedly attacked Canada, punishing its people with enormous tariffs, baselessly accosting its government, and even threatening to invade its land to make another U.S. state.The latest insult came earlier this week, when Trump announced 50 percent tariffs on a wide range of Canadian products worth $20 billion. Canada rescinded its invitations to U.S. officials for the bridge’s grand opening ceremony shortly thereafter, and moved the ribbon-cutting ceremony from the international border line at the center of the bridge to a nearby inspection plaza.“In light of trade action threatened by the United States earlier this week, it would be inappropriate to proceed with a celebratory event between the two countries,” the office of Canada’s infrastructure minister said, in a statement obtained by The New York Times. “The Gordie Howe International Bridge remains a vital infrastructure project that reflects years of hard work and will be a major economic driver.”Now Trump is threatening the bridge by claiming that the two countries will split the revenue 50-50, which was not what was agreed upon nearly 15 years ago.It’s not the first time that Trump has meddled with the bridge. In February, Trump promised that he would block the grand opening unless Canada “fully compensated” the U.S. “for everything” and give him “at least half” ownership of the bridge.It was not clear, even then, what Canada needed to compensate Washington for. Canada footed the bill for the Gordie Howe International Bridge. The project created new American labor and was constructed with U.S. supplies to boot.Trump’s take was an unexpected backtrack from how he felt about the bridge during his first term: Trump seemed to wholeheartedly support the endeavor in a joint statement issued in 2017 by himself and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, claiming at the time that the bridge would “serve as a vital economic link” between the two countries.

A lawmaker ended her remarks in tears at a hearing on Friday as she vowed to fight until "the murder committed by federal agents" never happens again under President Donald Trump.Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) was speaking at an oversight forum in Houston focused on the July 7 death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old construction worker shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.ICE and the Department of Homeland Security refused to send a representative. Garcia told the forum Congress had sent six letters demanding answers. None were returned.Salgado Araujo was not the target of the operation, according to DHS. Agents stopped him because they thought he resembled a suspect — a Guatemalan national. Salgado Araujo and everyone in his van were Mexican.The three men in the van when he was shot challenge the government's account of the shooting."Lorenzo had come to a full stop while the agents fired," passenger Daniel Tirado Pantoja wrote in a court filing, adding that at no point were agents in front of the vehicle.The agents had no body cameras and no dash cameras, federal agents told congressional Democrats. Neighborhood surveillance video and witness cell phone footage, however, captured parts of the pursuit."[The footage] looks more like a carjacking attempt than it does a police stop," Seth Stoughton, a University of South Carolina use-of-force expert and former police officer, told the Texas Tribune.At Friday's forum, Garcia said the administration's silence was precisely why the hearing had to happen."They don't intend to give us any answers until their investigation is complete," she said.Even border czar Tom Homan could not confirm whether agents used lights and sirens during the stop."It appears from everything we've seen that either these agents are completely untrained, or intentionally putting themselves in situations where they can justify firing into cars," Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare told CBS News.Garcia's voice cracked, and she began to sob as she turned to Salgado Araujo's sons, who were present at the hearing. "I'm proud of Mr. Salgado Araujo's sons," she said. "In the midst of unimaginable grief, they have shown extraordinary courage. We will fight tooth and nail to ensure the murder committed by federal agents never, ever happens again."Still crying, Garcia closed to applause."We are stronger than fear. Newly minted Senator Darline Graham, stepping in for her recently deceased brother Lindsey, only has one political donation on record—and it was to a South Carolina state senator who helped kill an abortion ban. The Daily Beast reported on Tuesday that Graham in 2020 donated $100 to state Senator Katrina Shealy, who is perhaps best known for filibustering the state’s near-total abortion ban in 2023. Shealy was part of South Carolina’s “sister senators,” a group of five female state lawmakers—two Republicans, a Democrat, and an independent— who were in staunch opposition to the ban. Shealy lost her primary the next year, largely due to this vote. Graham tried to bury the news of her ties to Shealy, writing in a statement on X on Wednesday that she believed in “protecting the sanctity of human life at every stage.”“For years, I’ve committed my life to fighting for vulnerable populations, and no one is more vulnerable than an unborn child who cannot speak for themselves,” she wrote. “As a mother, I know that welcoming children into this world is God’s greatest gift. I’m proud to be pro-life and to stand up for the unborn and expecting moms. I will not waver in my support for life, pregnant women, and families.”The MAGA-verse doesn’t seem to buy it. “Darline Graham Nordone is good friends with Katrina Shealy, the disgraced former South Carolina state senator who is PRO-ABORTION and OPPOSED the Heartbeat bill,” one conservative X account commented. “Darline even donated money to her campaign.”“I’m going to ask @LIFEforSC to not consider her for the coveted ‘incumbent endorsement.’ She is fully unproven. She backed pro-abortion Senator Katrina Shealy. Vote @RalphNorman,” said another, referring to the representative who announced last week that he’d be running for Lindsey Graham’s seat in the August 11 special election. “You donated to Healy who is pro abortion and was against the heartbeat bill. So either you are NOT pro life or you dont know who you are supporting,” wrote yet another. “Both are disqualifying.”Graham has not fully explained her donation to Shealy. PBS reported that the two women are in fact good friends and often share wine on each other’s porches. And while Graham cast herself as a hard-line conservative in the same mold as her brother, this recent revelation may lead to more problems for her in the future as she runs for her own six-year term after finishing his current one.
