Stephen Miller's recent argument that physical beauty reveals moral character hasn't gone quite according to plan. Miller raised eyebrows Saturday after telling attendees of a State Department high-level diplomatic meeting that he noticed a common trait among "leftwing terrorists."“You look at these violent antifa demonstrations and you see any photograph of those who were assembled — to be blunt, not one of the people that is demonstrating looks like a normal person,” he said. “Not one looks normal. They’re all deformed in some way — in their appearance, in their dress, in their mannerism.”These comments stunned MSNOW analyst Luke Russert because Miller seemed to be suggesting the moral high-ground was his. Miller famously orchestrated President Donald Trump's first-term immigration policy that put children in cages and faced backlash when leaked emails showed he distributed white nationalist content replete with racist theory based on debunked science. So Russert was surprised when Miller "tried to claim the religious high ground" — and again relied on looks to do it. “The leftist looks at what is beautiful and what is good and what is natural and is filled with envy and hatred,” Miller said. “The leftist looks at a perfect family with the perfect life and a perfect job and perfect kids that go to church every Sunday and is filled with a feeling of inadequacy and jealousy."Russert admitted he was unpersuaded by Miller's argument that Democrats were jealous of his beauty — admittedly on religious grounds. "His suggestion that people’s physical appearance reveals their moral character runs contrary to themes repeated throughout the Bible," Russert wrote. "Jesus says, 'Stop judging by appearances, but judge justly.'"Yet it is worth noting that Miller was carping on a topic his snarkier critics often use to attack him: physical appearance. When Miller in May lobbed an anti-trans insult at state Rep. James Talarico (D-TX), currently running to replace replace John Cornyn in the Senate, the Democratic Party didn't take it lying down. "The Democrats made history in Texas by nominating their first transgender senate candidate," Miller said of Talarico, who is not transgendered. Replied the Democratic Party, "Shut up you ugly f---."

A Fox News columnist efforts to defend President Donald Trump Saturday morning saw him unwittingly align himself with the Black Lives Matter movement. Mike Davis, founder of an organization that purports to "fight lawfare" on Trump's behalf, told Fox News readers they should be outraged by police brutality. "If a police officer unlawfully beats a suspect without cause and violates his civil rights, that officer should face legal accountability," Davis told conservatives. Davis made this call for police accountability as protesters take to the streets in Madison, Wisconsin, where Corey Ruiz was tackled, tased, kicked and fatally shot three times Wednesday. While police say Ruiz, 38, pulled a knife, protesters who have taken to the streets contend the force was excessive. About 200 protesters marched through Madison Thursday night chanting "Black Lives Matter" and "These killer cops have got to go."His weeping mother told the media, "They took my baby from me." So why did Davis alert his readers to the problem of police brutality? Jack Smith — the special counsel who brought criminal charges against Trump, ahead of his 2025 reelection, on charges he mishandled classified documents and tried overturn the 2020 presidential election."Holding him accountable is not a threat to law enforcement; it is consistent with the rule of law," Davis said of his hypothetical violent officer. "The same applies to rogue prosecutors like Smith."He tried and failed to alter the outcome of the 2024 presidential election by prosecuting President Trump across two jurisdictions on two absurd indictments," Davis claimed. "It is inconceivable how holding him legally accountable for that conduct would threaten the Justice Department."

A letter from former special counsel Jack Smith's lawyers went public Friday, exposing Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) criminal referral as a bad-faith attack on a "nonpartisan public servant."Covington attorneys Lanny Breuer and Peter Koski wrote the letter July 22 to Jordan and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, calling the referral "spurious."Legal journalist Roger Parloff posted a downloadable version Friday, calling it a "succinct demolition of Jim Jordan's bad-faith accusations."Jordan referred Smith to the Justice Department last week, claiming Smith made false statements during his December 2025 deposition before the House Judiciary Committee. Smith had testified that his team sought only toll records from lawmakers — call logs showing who called whom, with no message content.Jordan says Smith should have volunteered that his team separately obtained texts from 44 members of Congress through a National Archives request for White House phones. He referred Smith under the federal false-statements law.Smith's legal team carefully dissected Jordan's logic in the July 22 letter."During his testimony, Mr. Smith provided truthful, responsive answers and candidly discussed his work as Special Counsel," Breuer and Koski wrote. "Those answers are unimpeachably truthful. Notably, the referral letter does not contest the truthfulness of Mr. Smith's answers."Jordan's fallback, the letter said, was an "unprecedented theory" — that Smith committed perjury "not because of what he said, but because of what he did not say.""This dangerous theory of criminal liability has no limiting principle and risks ensnaring every witness who testifies before a congressional committee who does not proactively disclose information that is not responsive to a question asked," Breuer and Koski wrote.The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals already rejected that theory, the letter noted, citing a ruling that held witnesses are not required to volunteer answers to questions they were never asked.Former federal prosecutors have repeatedly criticized the legal theory put forth by Jordan."This referral letter is an embarrassment," CBS News quoted former federal prosecutor Kyle Freeny as saying."If they have bad questions, they do not get the answers that they want. It's almost like deposition 101," Freeny added.Former prosecutor Gregory Rosen called the referral "legally untenable, if not ridiculous.""If Congress wanted different answers, they should have asked different questions," Rosen said.Jordan also argued the texts violated the Constitution's Speech or Debate Clause, which protects lawmakers' official acts from scrutiny. But the letter from Smith's lawyers dismantled that too, noting the messages were voluntarily sent by members of Congress to White House officials and did not involve any intrusion into legislative business.Blanche, Trump's former personal defense attorney in both of Smith's federal cases against him, would have received the congressional texts as part of that discovery process — yet never challenged their legality in court, the letter noted."If President Trump's attorneys thought that Mr. Smith and his team had done something unlawful or improper in obtaining these text messages, they could have filed a motion to that effect," Breuer and Koski wrote. "Notably, they did not.""President Trump has repeatedly ordered that Mr. Smith be prosecuted and jailed," Breuer and Koski wrote. "That is not the rule of law."
