Vance calls Pope Leo’s AI warnings ‘profound’
In an interview with NBC News, Vance said he is glad the pope tackled AI. He also discussed why X remains off his phone after he deleted it for Lent.

Republican Representative Thomas Massie has vowed to go scorched earth on the Trump administration—by unveiling previously unmentioned names related to the Epstein files. The rogue Kentucky lawmaker pointed fingers at Donald and Melania Trump during an interview with NBC News’s Meet the Press Sunday, claiming that the first lady is well aware that the Justice Department’s public rollout of its investigation into the pedophilic web is incomplete. Acting Attorney General “Todd Blanche is violating the law; there’s still millions of files they haven’t released,” Massies said. “We know from talking to the victims’ lawyers that their own 302 forms haven’t been released. We know the files have been over-redacted.“I have released at least three names of billionaires who are implicated in this. I don’t think it’s possible to get to convictions with Todd Blanche at the top, and with the FBI Director Kash Patel at the top, because they’ve effectively both perjured themselves by saying that there’s nobody else in the files.“Even Melania doesn’t believe that: The first lady knows that Jeffrey Epstein didn’t act alone,” Massie said.Last month, Melania delivered an oddly timed public address that surprised even the president. In a short speech, she denied having any sort of relationship with Epstein or his longtime girlfriend and criminal associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. She also criticized media coverage that tied the three of them together (despite their having been photographed together), and called on Congress to allow Epstein’s victims to testify. Trump was reportedly not informed of what his wife would tell the public ahead of time, but said afterward that the content of Melania’s speech didn’t “bother” him and that she “had a right to talk about it.”Massie underscored that the Epstein Files Transparency Act “is a law” that will force the files’ release “for years.”“So, if we can’t get this attorney general and this FBI director to do the right thing, the next ones who take those seats are obligated by law to release the files that these individuals are not releasing now,” Massie concluded.Massie—a longtime critic of the president—lost his primary race last week to a Trump-backed candidate. But even before the primary vote, Massie had become increasingly unbeholden to MAGA loyalties, voting (and speaking) his mind, much to the president’s chagrin.

President Donald Trump had ramped up pressure on the Palmetto State, but he fell short in his goal of ousting the state’s lone Democrat.
Newly released Justice Department files reveal the extraordinary lengths to which Mount Sinai Hospital staff went to provide VIP medical care to Jeffrey Epstein, even years after his 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor. The documents expose a network of doctors and administrators at the prestigious Manhattan medical institution who arranged after-hours emergency room access, made house calls to Epstein's homes and private island and facilitated professional opportunities for people in his circle, reported CNN.One notable instance involved Dr. Jess Ting, a plastic surgeon at Mount Sinai, who repeatedly traveled to Epstein's residences for medical consultations. In emails obtained by the Justice Department, Ting described Epstein as a "VIP" and pledged that "for Mr. Epstein anything is possible." When Epstein's assistant asked if Ting could perform a procedure at 10 p.m., Ting simply responded: "yes. See you then."Hedge fund manager Glenn Dubin, a prominent trustee of the Mount Sinai Health System and primary founder of a namesake breast cancer center at the hospital, is mentioned numerous times in the Epstein files and is now married to Epstein's ex-girlfriend Eva Andersson-Dubin, who used her connections for special treatment from the hospital.Robin Solomon, who headed trustee services at Mount Sinai, provided Andersson-Dubin with a 24/7 emergency room contact number in 2013. "All he has to say is he's a friend of yours and EVERYONE is great," Solomon wrote, according to the files. The revelations have created significant tension within Mount Sinai's medical community. Multiple doctors told CNN they had no knowledge of Epstein's connections to the hospital and expressed shock upon learning the details. One anonymous physician affiliated with the institution called for the hospital to rename the Dubin Breast Center, fire implicated doctors and sever ties with the Dubin family."I think they're just focused on the money and not upsetting people in power," the doctor said, suggesting that financial considerations from wealthy donors continued to influence institutional decision-making.The hospital has largely remained silent on the controversy. Mount Sinai's statement acknowledged that Epstein's actions were "reprehensible" but declined to address specific questions about its internal investigation, the total amount of donations received, or the conduct of staff members involved in providing preferential treatment. The files also document instances where Epstein leveraged his hospital connections for personal favors unrelated to his own medical care. When his girlfriend Karyna Shuliak was rejected for a dental residency at Mount Sinai, Epstein forwarded the rejection email to Solomon, who subsequently promised to intervene: "I'm going to call my contact tomorrow and get her interviewed.""The Epstein files indicate that the New York financier appears to have given over $300,000 to Mount Sinai-affiliated organizations, with at least $125,000 donated directly to the Dubin Breast Center," CNN reported."In 2013, Andersson-Dubin tried to pitch Epstein on helping to fund post-surgery recovery rooms for women, telling him that the floor could be called 'The Epstein Floor for Women,'" the report added. "The next year, hospital employees discussed putting up a plaque at the Dubin Breast Center that would say it was in honor of Epstein. It is not clear if this plaque ever went up."The DOJ's release of millions of Epstein files has prompted Mount Sinai to form a committee to investigate its ties to the financier, but hospital leadership has provided no public updates on that investigation or any corrective measures being considered.
Panel of three judges says congressional map was drawn to intentionally discriminate against Black votersAlabama cannot use a new Republican-friendly map in this year’s midterm elections because it was drawn to intentionally discriminate against Black voters, a panel of three federal judges ruled on Tuesday. The decision blocks Alabama from using a congressional map lawmakers passed in 2023 but never went into effect because the same court found it was drawn with intent to discriminate. Alabama was eventually ordered to adopt a map with two majority-Black districts that both elected Democrats. After the US supreme court gutted a major provision of the Voting Rights Act in a case called Louisiana v Callais in April, Alabama took the extraordinary step of moving its imminent congressional primary and sought to use the 2023 congressional map this year. Alabama Republicans immediately called for an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court after losing a redistricting battle at a three-judge panel of a federal court.Republicans are trying to reinstate a 2023 congressional map that would allow them the possibility of picking up a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.Democrats claimed the new map would send Alabama back to the '1950s and 60s.' On Tuesday, a U.S. district court in Alabama sided against the map and ordered the state to use a map with two majority-black districts."Ultimately, we cannot see our way clear to requiring Alabamians to cast their votes in the 2026 elections under a districting plan tainted by intentional race-based discrimination," read the ruling.Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall released a statement after the ruling."I am disappointed, but not at all surprised, that the three-judge panel has again struck down Alabama’s blandly unobjectionable congressional map that has been in place for decades," wrote Marshall."I find nothing in the U.S. Supreme Court’s vacatur order of May 11 that would provide a basis for this outcome; thus, we will immediately appeal this decision to the Supreme Court," he added.Rep. Shomari Figures, one of the Democrats representing a black-majority district in Alabama, praised the ruling but said Democrats were prepared to continue fighting at the Supreme Court."I am pleased with the Court's decision, but this case is still not over," he wrote."Although we expected the Court to reach this decision given the overwhelming evidence, we fully expect the State to immediately appeal the decision to the Supreme Court," Figures added. "This is a significant step in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go before this fight is settled."Figures had previously claimed the new map would send Alabama back to the "1950s and 60s in terms of Black political representation in the state."RELATED: VIDEO: Ocasio-Cortez makes humiliating mistake while telling New York to take on the South "We've seen it from Republicans across the country — their goal is to eliminate every opportunity district for an African American candidate in the country," Figures added in a separate comment.Marshall expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would side with Republicans."This is a very fluid situation, and I will do my best to keep the People of Alabama apprised of our efforts," he added. "Know this — in my mind, it is not a matter of whether we win this case, only when."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. A three-judge panel on Tuesday blocked Alabama Republicans’ congressional map that would’ve given the party a potential pickup opportunity in the midterms. The judges ruled the Supreme Court’s recent blockbuster decision narrowing the Voting Rights Act does not impact their finding that the map intentionally discriminates against Black voters in violation of the Constitution. A federal court in Alabama has struck down Republicans’ attempt to redraw the state’s congressional map, on the grounds that it intentionally discriminates against Black voters. On Tuesday, a three-judge panel of the U.S. District Court ruled that the state could not switch to its 2023 congressional map, which had previously been blocked in court three years ago, even after the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act earlier this month. That earlier map only had one majority-Black, Democratic-leaning district, as opposed to the current two. “Ultimately, we cannot see our way clear to requiring Alabamians to cast their votes in the 2026 elections under a districting plan tainted by intentional race-based discrimination,” the judges said in their ruling. Two of the three judges were appointed by President Trump himself. Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court cleared the way for Alabama to redraw its maps, sending the redistricting process down to the lower court. Republicans will almost certainly appeal Tuesday’s ruling, sending it back up to the high court. Alabama Republicans have ignored protests and even natural disasters in order to force through a new congressional map as primary elections draw near. Governor Kay Ivey last week delayed four of the state’s congressional primaries in anticipation of the new map. For now, though, three federal judges are blocking their attempt. “There is no convincing evidence that it is necessary for us to allow Alabama to pivot to the 2023 Plan in the middle of an election, and substantial evidence that it is not,” the judges ruled. This story has been updated.
