President Donald Trump continues to meddle with global sports events coming to the U.S., with a new report from Politico revealing that he is scheming with the Olympics organizers to create a golf tournament, to be held at his own West Coast golf course.Los Angeles is set to play host to the 2028 Summer Olympics, coming shortly after the U.S. served as one of the host nations for the 2026 World Cup. As happened with the globally recognized soccer tournament, Politico reported on Tuesday that Trump is attempting to use the Olympics to personally enrich himself, while also furthering his own golf obsession."Organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are working with the Trump administration to put on a tournament at the Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles right before the Summer Games, according to two people familiar with the planning," Politico's report explained. "The event, which would pair professional golfers with amateur participants in a format commonly known as a 'pro-am' tournament, is not expected to be an official Olympic event."The report continued: "But it is being considered as a high-profile kickoff to the Games in a sport and location that Trump values. The prospect of holding a marquee Olympics-adjacent event at a golf course owned by the presidential family’s Trump Organization highlights the extent to which organizers believe maintaining a productive relationship with the White House is essential to delivering a successful Games."Two anonymous sources close to the ongoing discussions for the tournament confirmed the story to Politico, while the Olympics organizing body, LA28, declined to comment. The sources stressed that the situation remains "fluid and still subject to change."Politico explained that putting on the Olympic Games requires "extensive federal involvement on everything from security and transportation to immigration and visa processing for athletes and visitors," even if the process is formally handled by local and international "sports bodies." The need for cooperation with the White House is likely to be more important under this administration, given its wide-ranging travel ban for numerous countries, requiring the Olympics and the World Cup to rely on federal approval for travel exemptions for athletes from affected nations."Since the United States earned co-hosting rights for this year’s World Cup, soccer executives have appealed to Trump to apply such exemptions to permit entry for qualifying teams," Politico added. "President Gianni Infantino of FIFA, the soccer governing body that stages the World Cup, has met with Trump more than a dozen times since the president returned to office."

Senate Majority Leader John Thune acknowledged on Tuesday that taxpayers will help foot the bill for President Donald Trump's $600 million White House ballroom.Trump has promised since July 2025 that the project would cost taxpayers nothing. The Washington Post reported Tuesday that internal contractor documents tell a different story.Thune, speaking at a Capitol press conference, didn't dispute it."I do believe that there is certainly some expectation that there would be dollars allocated for that purpose that would go above and beyond the private money that's been raised," he said."There are important security requirements that go with any building project in the White House," Thune continued. "We want to make sure that any additions made down there are completed in a way that ensures that the president and others in his administration are safe and secure."The Post obtained contractor documents showing a March 5 estimate from Clark Construction put the project at $600 million. The taxpayer share breaks down to $155 million from the Secret Service, $149 million from the White House Military Office, and $3 million from the Executive Residence — $307 million in public funds in total.Three weeks after Clark delivered that figure, Trump told Oval Office reporters: "This is taxpayer-free. We have no taxpayer putting up 10 cents."White House spokesman Davis Ingle pushed back Tuesday, saying Trump and donors are funding the ballroom "to the tune of approximately $400 million."Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) was among six Republicans who voted during a Senate floor session to require congressional approval before any public or private money could fund the ballroom. She said Trump's original commitment should hold."President Trump indicated that the ballroom was going to be built with private donations," Collins said. "He should keep to that commitment."Three independent contracting experts who reviewed the documents told The Post the costs can't be cleanly separated."I think it's inevitable that it bleeds over. It's one structure," said Stan Soloway, a former Pentagon acquisition official and board chair at the National Academy of Public Administration.
Republicans have a long list of questions about the Iran deal, and they are so far noncommittal about whether it’s even something they can support. That’s not stopping many of them from defending President Donald Trump, though, as Democrats claim the agreement is no better than the one he threw away in 2017, when he […]

Federal prosecutors revealed details Tuesday of a 94-page indictment against 15 individuals they alleged to be affiliated with Antifa – the loosely organized anti-fascist movement that the Trump administration has designated as a terrorist organization – though mockery soon ensued after prosecutors shared a particularly “embarrassing” piece of evidence.Speaking at a press conference in Minnesota, U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen announced that a federal indictment had been unsealed charging 15 defendants with “conspiracy to injure federal officers,” among other charges. He went on to share with reporters evidence supporting the indictment, with one example sparking widespread mockery among critics.“You see here a Facebook post from one of the defendants writing, quote: ‘We need to become ungovernable,’” Rosen said, pointing to a monitor with a screengrab of the social media post in question displayed.“Embarrassing,” noted the progressive media outlet The Tennessee Holler in a social media post on X.“Oh, so they have NOTHING nothing,” quipped independent journalist Aaron Rupar. And Jim Stewartson, an entertainment producer and political commentator, argued the press conference made a “mockery” of the American justice system.“Wait. That’s evidence of something?” Stewartson asked in a social media post on X to his nearly 150,000 followers. “Justice Department, if you keep making a mockery of the American justice system and acting as a personal defense firm for the demented pedophile running the country, you are god------ right we will become ‘ungovernable.’ Welcome to America.”Rosen not only received scrutiny from critics online, but from a journalist attending the press conference in person, Minnesota Reformer’s Madison McVan, who noted that more than a third of the individuals named in the indictment had already had their charges dismissed.“I don't think any cases have failed in any way," Rosen pushed back."It's actually half now," another reporter could be heard interjecting.Embarrassing https://t.co/nY10ZsKE7t— The Tennessee Holler (@TheTNHoller) June 16, 2026
