Right-wing justice's 'doozy' of a remark called out by Supreme Court reporter
Source: Raw Story · Bias: Far Left
Summary
A reporter criticized right-wing Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito for a hypocritical comment on Monday. Alito reportedly did not participate in the three decisions announced Monday in an order list: Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. v. Noohi, Narguess; Johnson & Johnson, et al. v. San Diego City. Employees, et al; and March, Anthony W. v. United States. It's unclear what prompted him to recuse himself, although it could be tied to the Court's Code of Conduct and the requirement that justices do not participate in cases involving "financial, professional or personal conflicts," Newsweek reported. "In 2024, Bloomberg reported Alito or his wife owns stock in multiple companies, including a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson," according to Newsweek. Jimmy Hoover, Supreme Court Reporter at The National Law Journal and law.com, wrote the following on X and called out Alito's remarks: "Just heard a doozy from Justice Alito in today's Supreme Court argument about federal court procedure: 'When have we reached out to overrule a decision when we haven’t even been asked to do it?' Alito, of course, authored the Dobbs ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. Mississippi's petition did not originally ask it to do so. #SCOTUS" Alito wrote the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. He was appointed by former President George W. Bush and has been facing mounting pressure to retire. Reports indicate he has no plan to step down from the high court, despite comments from President Donald Trump that he was prepared to replace justices with three new justices if there were vacancies.Just heard a doozy from Justice Alito in today's Supreme Court argument about federal court procedure: "When have we reached out to overrule a decision when we haven’t even been asked to do it?"Alito, of course, authored the Dobbs ruling overturning Roe v.
