Hand-picked Trump attorney may have jeopardized 'grand conspiracy' investigation: report
Source: Raw Story · Bias: Far Left
Summary
New details out of Lawfare reveal that Joseph diGenova, the far-right crony President Donald Trump put in charge of his so-called "grand conspiracy" investigation, has made several claims about Trump that could jeopardize any potential charges out of that investigation.Specifically, diGenova has made a number of politically-charged claims, including that former Attorney General Pam Bondi blocked his appointment to head up the "Russia hoax investigation" previously, that Trump insisted on that appointment, and that Bondi's firing was partly a result of that, according to the report. "Just this month, in an interview with Rudy Giuliani, diGenova claimed that former Attorney General Pam Bondi was 'singularly responsible for the delay and investigations into the lawfare against Donald Trump that’s being run out of the ... U.S. attorney’s office in Miami and Ft. Pierce,'" said the report. "Saying she had previously nixed his appointment to run the probe, diGenova insisted, 'If she had not done that, we would have had indictments brought in the last two months.'""DiGenova further suggested that Bondi had been fired over the president’s frustration with the slow pace of the Miami probe," said the report. "'The president’s conversation with her yesterday, coming back from the Supreme Court, was not pleasant,' he said, referring to the conversation in which Trump reportedly fired Bondi. 'The president was ripping mad about the fact that there was no progress on the lawfare investigation in Miami.'"According to Lawfare's Anna Bower, these comments could be a huge deal if the investigation DiGenova oversees actually produces indictments."Why are these details important?" Bower posted to X. "Because if criminal charges are brought against Comey, Brennan, or others, the defense will almost certainly cite diGenova’s own account of his hiring in a motion to dismiss for selective or vindictive prosecution."
