CBS News New York removed a false claim from its coverage of a petition targeting New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani after journalist Judd Legum identified the inaccuracy.According to Popular Information, the petition was launched by Giovanni Galante, whose husband died on 9/11, and called for the Muslim mayor to stay away from the 25th anniversary ceremony. CBS initially claimed "thousands of 9/11 victims' families" signed the petition. However, Legum's investigation revealed the petition organizers had no actual count of how many signatories were 9/11 families. Galante admitted the "300 figure" shared with the New York Post was merely an estimate based on personal networks, not verified data.“After Popular Information reached out for comment, that line was removed,” Legum explained. “A revised article on the CBS website says the petition has ‘purportedly drawn thousands of signatures, including some victims' families.’”The Facebook post showed the original caption was edited from "thousands" to "some" following the fact-check.Watch the video below. Border Patrol agents involved in last year's federal takeover of Los Angeles tossed around slurs to refer to Latinos while going about their patrol and arrest work, reported the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday.This occurred under the command of former Border Patrol leader Greg Bovino, who became infamous for overseeing brutal crackdowns against migrants and protesters alike in every city he went to."The agents called them things like 'tonk' and 'wet,'" according to body camera footage and text messages detailed in a court filing asking a federal judge to bar agents from making stops based on racial profiling."Wet" is a shortened form of a notorious slur for Latinos, while "tonk," noted American Immigration Council senior fellow Aaron Reichlin-Melnick on X, is "a Border Patrol slur that refers to the sound a metal flashlight makes when used to beat a migrant in the head."For example, noted the report, "After a June raid at Home Depot in Hollywood, body camera footage captured an agent saying: 'There was a guy, I’m pretty sure he’s wet; he was just sitting in that minivan.'" Meanwhile, a text chain had one agent saying he saw “tonks everywhere selling food,” and another video in which an agent stated, "Just plug us in wherever you see some tonks and we’ll jump out.”Bovino was pushed aside and pressed into retirement after a disastrous campaign in Minneapolis that saw ICE agents fatally shoot Renee Good and Alex Pretti.He has since unabashedly continued to spread conspiracy theories in online interviews, including his unfounded belief that there are 100 million people in the United States illegally to deport — a figure more than five times the real estimates, and which would make around 1 in 4 people in the country unauthorized.

A recent Freedom of Information Act request for Pentagon records revealed the department never disclosed that 70 American troops were wounded in a single day during Trump's Iran war.The War Horse filed the request and published its findings, revealing over 400 casualties in the first six weeks of conflict. The data was logged between Feb. 28 and April 8, with head trauma being the most common among 170 cases. Troops also suffered shrapnel wounds, broken bones, and smoke inhalation, according to the data. Army soldiers comprised most casualties, with over 270 troops, including roughly one-third reservists. The largest casualty day occurred on March 18, following a U.S.-Israeli airstrike killing senior Iranian official Ali Larijani. The Pentagon subsequently reorganized its Defense Casualty Analysis System, Task & Purpose found. Additionally, the Washington Examiner reported the Pentagon split the war into separate operational lists to circumvent the 60-day War Powers Act requirement for congressional authorization. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) condemned the situation on social media, "Let me explain this absurd ruse: The Pentagon is pretending there have been two Iran wars separated by a brief cease-fire," he added, "The reality: By going more than 90 days without congressional authorization, War Secretary Pete Hegseth is breaking the law and must be held accountable."Watch the video below. Meet Beto Coral, Activist Targeted by ICE for Criticism of Trump-Backed Colombian President-Elect

A prominent Colombian activist left the United States after he was arrested by immigration agents and detained for over a month in an ICE jail. Franklin Humberto Coral Garrido, known as Beto Coral, was a frequent online critic of far-right President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella, a Trump ally, in the run-up to Colombia’s election. In a memo obtained by The New York Times in June, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio pushed for Coral’s deportation and accused the activist of undermining U.S. foreign policy and interfering in Colombia’s democratic process by supporting current Colombian leftist President Gustavo Petro and attacking de la Espriella. Coral arrived in the United States in 2015 on a tourist visa and had a pending asylum application. “The treatment I received was inhumane,” says Coral of his time in ICE custody. He says that while in detention, he was beaten, denied food and water, and kept in solitary confinement. “The problem that Marco Rubio and the Trump administration has,” explains Elizabeth Shaw, one of Coral’s attorneys, is that Coral’s opinion “is against what they are in support of.”
