CNN's Tom Foreman sounded surprised at his own reporting as he provided an update on the ongoing Reflecting Pool saga.President Donald Trump has blamed vandals for the problems that have plagued his $14 million renovation of the pool, which turned green with an algae bloom once it was refilled following a paint job that is already deteriorating. At least five people have been arrested for taking chunks of the damaged materials from the water."The only name we really know is a former Olympian, David Hearn, a local guy here, and he said he went by and all he did was reach in there," Foreman told "The Situation Room." "He is competing in the slalom canoe for the United States of America. He said he's a material scientist; he studied material science. He reached into the water just to touch this, to see what it was like, to see what this material was like, where it was already loose, and then they came along and they arrested him for this.""Part of the question here is," Foreman added, "if they're arresting him for that being damage, just because he touched it, as he said, the question is, what about the dozens and dozens of workers who have been in there day after day, walking all over it, pushing these little vacuum things all over it, potentially, that causes damage to."Foreman then described the ongoing efforts to undo the damage in time for the July 4 celebrations, which are less than two weeks away, and he seemed caught off guard by the latest developments."In any event, the algae is not under control," he said. "It's still there as of this morning, even though they're trying to get it cleared up, and now they're talking about maybe having to drain the whole thing and start over, literally putting tax money, well, figuratively, I guess, down the drain."Foreman then explained why Trump seemed so focused on fixing the damage his update had caused."He ridiculed all former presidents, saying all their efforts were just foolish, a waste of money, and I can do it for less than $2 million," Foreman said. "It ended up costing seven times that much, and so far shows no signs of working any better than anything that was tried before." - YouTube youtu.be
Right-wing Trump ally Abelardo de la Espriella has clinched a narrow victory in Sunday’s runoff presidential election in Colombia, defeating leftist Senator Iván Cepeda, an ally of current President Gustavo Petro. De la Espriella ran a fearmongering, “tough-on-crime” campaign, promising to build mega-prisons inspired by El Salvador’s authoritarian President Nayib Bukele, to bomb “narcoterrorist camps” and to abandon Petro’s peace efforts. His reported victory is also a win for U.S. President Donald Trump, whose administration is waging an intensifying “war on drugs” across Latin America, targeting left-wing leaders like Petro with false allegations and threats of military intervention. “De la Espriella clearly represents a criminal approach to politics: lying, propaganda, coordination and collusion with criminal narcotrafficking, restriction of rights, and money laundering,” says longtime Colombian activist Manuel Rozental. With his victory, says Rozental, “We expect to have military operations and a U.S. intervention within the country. We expect to have human rights abuses. We expect to have militarization. And it’s all for the extraction of resources and the link of drug trafficking to the U.S. government, U.S. interests and global mafia.”
LeBron James has not made a decision about his future, but the uncertainty surrounding the NBA’s all-time leading scorer is already becoming one of the league’s biggest offseason storylines. Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard may have been taking orders on political decisions from Chris Butler, the leader of a group many former members have called a cult, according to a new investigation from The Washington Post.So far, Gabbard’s allies in the Trump administration have been largely silent about the report that the person they placed in charge of the CIA, FBI, and NSA may have been taking directives from a man many former followers view as a cult leader. As Gabbard is no longer a part of the Trump administration, perhaps her former colleagues feel no pressure to weigh in. But, conservative commentator Meghan McCain defended Gabbard on X Sunday afternoon.“What absolute unpatriotic vile trash this attack on @TulsiGabbard is. They wont cover her releases on Fauci or bio labs - both things that threaten the safety and wellbeing of the American people, but spend time and space vomiting this washed up nonsense anti-Hindu bigoted crap,” McCain wrote, referring to Gabbard’s release of documents “exposing” Dr. Anthony Fauci for supposed actions taken during the Covid-19 pandemic on Friday, her last day on the job.Reporter Jon Swaine gained access to a trove of emails that appeared to show memos from someone within the Science of Identity Foundation (SIF) directing Gabbard during her time in Congress. When Swaine compared the directives to Tulsi’s voting record, legislative proposals, and media statements, he found “unmistakable parallels.”Butler’s followers practice a form of Hinduism known as Hare Krishna, and his politics when he founded SIF did not belong squarely in one political camp: “He inveighed against Muslims, homosexuality, gun control and public schools, but also promoted environmentalism and anti-capitalism,” the Post reported. After two months with no answers from Gabbard’s office, Swaine informed Gabbard that he would be proceeding with the story. Two days later, Fox News reported that Gabbard would be stepping down from her position as Director of National Intelligence. On her last days in office, a spokesperson gave a statement: “The attacks on Director Gabbard’s faith and loyalty are not only false — they are a blatant example of anti-Hindu bigotry.”
For once, Los Angeles isn’t America’s biggest wallet killer. A new study has ranked Los Angeles as the second-most expensive U.S. host city for World Cup fans, with visitors expected to spend roughly $500 over just two days on restaurants and tourist activities alone. Only New York/New Jersey was pricier, with an eye-popping $720 estimated...
