Energy Secretary Chris Wright dropped an expletive at a House hearing Wednesday — and got scolded for it by the Republican running the room.The meltdown came after Rep. Gabe Amo (D-RI) confronted Wright over President Donald Trump's broken pledge to slash energy prices by 50% and the Department of Energy's cancellation of hundreds of clean energy grants in blue states."Has Donald Trump fulfilled his promise?" Amo asked."He sets ambitious targets, and he is all in on driving in that direction," Wright hedged."So my answer is no!" Amo noted."Not yet!" Wright fired back.Amo then charged that Wright had canceled more than 300 projects in Democratic-leaning states — including $14 million for three Rhode Island grants — and that a court found the DOE violated the Constitution. He then quoted from litigation in which the DOE's own attorneys wrote that "a primary reason for the selection of which DOE grant termination decisions were included in the October 2025 notice tranche was whether the grantee was located in a blue state.""We did not involve politics in the decisions!" Wright said, denying the charge."What about the outcomes, Mr. Secretary?" Amo pressed.Wright snapped: "So it's bulls—! We're gonna say it a million times! Not true!"That prompted Amo to call a point of parliamentary procedure. "Are we promoting language like that from witnesses?"House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chair Brian Babin (R-TX) stepped in. "Watch your language there, Mr. Secretary," he said, before trying to move on."We'll do [that], sir!" Wright promised.Amo accused Wright of performing for "your audience of one" — President Trump — and pressed him again on whether he would restore the canceled grants."We've gone overboard for New England, for California, for blue states!" Wright dodged."That's not an answer!" Amo shot back, reclaiming his time. He closed with a final question: "Do you believe federal grant decisions should be based in any way on how a state's voters cast their ballots in a presidential election?""They shouldn't, and they weren't!" Many in the black community have responded negatively to the verdict in the Karmelo Anthony murder trial, but few have reacted as poorly as Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas did.Anthony was found guilty Tuesday of murdering 17-year-old high school star athlete Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, last year. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison.'It's impossible to have a conversation with people who live in this level of delusion and perpetual fake victimhood.' The case sparked a bitter debate on social media as some suggested that Anthony was prosecuted unfairly because he is black and the victim was white.Crockett went even further to insult the parents of Austin Metcalf in order to inflame her fans and supporters."Black women, especially black women who have black male children, live in fear and agony every single day, a fear and agony that, I promise you, the Metcalfs probably never spend a day living that way," she said."We're gonna have to have just some real conversations about race in this country," she added, "but also just, like, what are we going to do to protect ourselves."Crockett made the comments on her livestream show, "Clock It with Crockett," which can be viewed on her YouTube channel.The snippet of her downplaying the Metcalf family's pain was posted to social media, where many reacted with rancor."Idolizing skin color has completely robbed you of common sense and decency. How dare you compare just being a black woman to the horror of losing a child," Shemeka Michelle replied."Jasmine Crockett believes the mere existence of black women in America is more painful than a white family watching their son murdered and living with that reality. A Democratic senator pressed a Trump-nominated judge who refused to answer questions during his confirmation hearing for an appeals court vacancy on Wednesday.Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) had a sharp response to North Dakota U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Mack Traynor."When it comes to asking you basic questions about January 6, you won't answer those questions," Schiff said."The difference, senator, is that there are cases or controversies that I have before me as a district judge relating to individuals that have been charged for conduct that occurred on that date in this Capitol," Traynor said.Schiff mentioned how Traynor and 12 other conservative judges signed a letter urging a boycott on hiring law clerks from Columbia University amid the institution's handling of pro-Palestinian student demonstrations on the school's campus in response to Israel's war in Gaza, according to Reuters. In 2024, Traynor refused to recuse himself from a case involving university law school faculty regarding protests over the Dakota Access oil pipeline.Schiff asked if Traynor would recuse himself from other litigation involving Columbia.Traynor argued he held no particular bias against the university. Schiff pushed back."Your letter demonstrates a very clear bias, I'm not saying it's an unreasonable bias, but it is a bias," Schiff said. Traynor then again refused — for the second time in the hearing — to say who won the 2020 presidential election."I'm asking you the question," Schiff said."This is completely inconsistent with your involvement in the whole Columbia controversy," Schiff said. "Because you involved yourself in that controversy. You went out of your way. Nobody asked you to write that letter. You took this upon yourself to do, to insert yourself into that. But you're saying here you can't answer a simple question about who won the 2020 election because it would somehow implicate you in controversy. I'm sorry, there's no way to square those two things." A longtime Democratic senator slammed a judge nominated by President Donald Trump for an appeals court vacancy after he refused to answer a direct question about who won the 2020 presidential election.Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) asked North Dakota U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Mack Traynor, who was testifying before the Senate during a confirmation hearing for the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals."Who won the 2020 election?" Blumenthal asked."This issue has become a question of political controversy. I'm a sitting federal district judge, I'm a nominee to be 8th Circuit court of appeals. Justice Jackson, who previously was confirmed by the Senate for a position...," Traynor said, as Blumenthal interjected. "It's 'political controversy' only because the president refuses to accept the results of the 2020 election. I'm asking you as a matter of fact. Who won the 2020 election?" Blumenthal again asked. But Traynor tried to dodge the question again."As Justice Jackson stated, in her responses to questions on the record, it is not appropriate to engage in discussion regarding that as a judge, or sitting judge," Traynor said.But Blumenthal wasn't satisfied with the judge's response. "So you're going to use the same script that other nominees have used before this panel to avoid the question?" Blumenthal asked. "I think the precedent established by Justice Jackson and other nominees is something that I need to follow," Traynor responded."As a matter of fact, who got more votes in 2020? Which of the presidential candidates?" Blumenthal asked. "As I stated before, this is an issue that Justice Jackson and other nominees have been asked, they've not provided a response," Traynor said.Blumenthal cut off Traynor and called him out for avoiding the question — and repeating the same excuses that other Trump-allied nominees have used in previous congressional hearings."You understand why I'm asking you to state, as a simple matter of fact who got more votes? The reason is because the president seeks to perpetuate a lie. You are in effect, protecting the lie if you fail to take an independent position as a matter of simple fact. Everybody in this room knows the answer. You're unwilling to state it. Instead, adopting a script that has been dictated to you by the White House.
