President Trump said that Ms. Leavitt, who recently gave birth to her second child, would be leaving to spend time with her family.
Leavitt will depart from her role to spend time with her young children and family, the president says.
Leavitt called it a "bittersweet decision" in a social media post Wednesday shortly after President Donald Trump announced she would be stepping down. She recently returned to the White House podium after the birth of her second child, a daughter named Viviana, in May.
