Rep. Ilhan Omar drastically revised her financial disclosures, reducing claimed assets from up to $30 million to at most $125,000 amid fraud allegations.
President says ‘vandals’ to blame for algae blooms and peeling paint as $14m renovation to undergo further repairsThe Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool is set to be drained again after Donald Trump said on Monday – without providing proof – that five people were arrested for vandalism and five more are under investigation in connection to the algae blooms and peeling paint that appeared weeks after his ill-fated $14m renovation attempt.“It’s not a lot of damage, but we’ll probably have to let the water out and refix it. They went in there with a knife,” Trump told reporters, describing what he first said was a 290- to 300ft slit in the paint but then later amended to a 350ft slit. He also said someone had put fertilizer into the water, which caused the algae to grow. Continue reading...
Rep. Ilhan Omar, a radical Minnesota Democrat who has in recent years been accused of immigration-related fraud, is facing renewed scrutiny over her finances in the wake of a new filing claiming that she and her current husband, former Democratic consultant Tim Mynett, might have a negative net worth.Republicans remain dissatisfied with the explanation provided by Omar's office — that the dramatic fluctuations in the congresswoman's alleged net worth is the result of an "accounting error" that has since been rectified.'Voters see right through the corrupt lies of Ilhan Omar.'Riches The Somalia-born ethno-nationalist raised eyebrows last year with a financial disclosure report claiming that in 2024 — the same year that the U.S. attorney's office in Washington, D.C., and the DOJ's public integrity unit reportedly launched an investigation into the congresswoman's finances — she and her husband held assets of between $6 million and $30 million. The couple's sudden fortune was linked in the filing to Mynett's venture-capital management firm, Rose Lake Capital LLC, as well as to his now-defunct winery, eStCru LLC.In addition to contradicting Omar's previous assertion that she was "not a millionaire," the May 2025 filing prompted House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (Ky.) and other Republicans to question "how her husband accumulated so much wealth over the past two years."After all, she reported assets valued at no more than $208,000 in 2023, and a year earlier, Rose Lake Capital reportedly had only $42.44 in its bank account."There is no way such wealth could have been accumulated, legally, while being paid the salary of a politician," President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post on Jan. 22.RELATED: Squad-endorsed candidate once reportedly volunteered with group tied to al-Qaeda and testified for terrorist 'blind cleric' Rep. Ilhan Omar and her current husband, Tim Mynett. Tierney L. Cross/Bloomberg/Getty ImagesThe congresswoman subsequently filed an amended disclosure for 2024 claiming that the value of the assets she and her husband held was between $18,004 and $95,000. The Wall Street Journal highlighted that in the amended disclosure filed on March 26, Mynett's businesses were shown as having no value once liabilities were factored in."The amended disclosure confirms what we've said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire," Jacklyn Rogers, a spokeswoman for Omar, stated at the time. "The congresswoman amended her disclosures voluntarily as soon as the discrepancy was identified."RagsDays before Vice President JD Vance claimed last month that Omar was under investigation by the Justice Department, the foreign-born congresswoman filed her financial disclosure for fiscal year 2025.According to the new filing first detailed by the New York Post, Mynett made no income last year from Rose Lake Capital. The only money Mynett allegedly earned last year was $201 to $1,000 from eStCru, which filed for termination in April — roughly one week after Omar filed her amended financial disclosure stating the winery was effectively worthless.Omar claimed that the total value of her and her husband's assets last year was somewhere in the range of $20,000 to $125,000 and that their liabilities — student loans and credit card debt — were between $30,000 and $100,000. On the basis of Omar's financial allegations, her net worth is between -$80,000 and $95,000.A spokesperson for Omar told Blaze News in a statement, "The amended disclosure confirms what we've said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire.""The original filing was based on incomplete information from Mr. Mynett's businesses' accountants in good faith and deference to professional judgment. It listed assets without liabilities, and it significantly overstated her husband’s net worth," the spokesperson continued. "The accounting error created a misleading picture of far greater wealth. The congresswoman amended her disclosures voluntarily as soon as the discrepancy was identified. The amended disclosure is now complete and accurate."Delanie Bomar, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, told the Post, "Voters see right through the corrupt lies of Ilhan Omar.""Omar has spent her entire career covering up Democrat-enabled fraud that cost taxpayers billions, so it's no surprise that she would do the same for her husband," Bomar continued.House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) stated, "Ilhan Omar and her husband need to be held accountable for their sketchy financial disclosures. They're clearly lying and trying to game the system."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
The internet questioned President Donald Trump's claims on Monday that someone used a knife or fertilizer to damage the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.Trump alleged that someone damaged the algae-plagued fountain at the National Mall, telling reporters at the Oval Office that there was "a 350-foot slit" in the remodeled water feature. Earlier in the day, he threatened on Truth Social that people who attempted to "destroy" his vanity projects, including the reflecting pool, could face time behind bars.Media experts and political commentators reacted to Trump's comments."A boxcutter created algae?" Leslie Marshall, Democratic strategist and talk show host, wrote on X."Maybe the UN inspectors should come in and take a look at it," longtime casting director Greg Orson wrote on X."This is just bats--- crazy. You got to be pretty deep into the cult to buy this nonsense," Ron Filipkowski, MeidasTouch editor and attorney, wrote on X."Who is the 'they' that Trump claims dumped fertilizer in Reflecting pool? Republican congressional candidate Michael Carbonara of Florida took to social media Monday to laud the Trump administration's "massive accountability" push – only to be immediately fact-checked for a blatant falsehood in his post.“Wow: [FBI Director] Kash Patel CONFIRMS felony convictions against James Comey,” Carbonara falsely wrote, as was soon pointed out by several critics and X’s crowd-sourced fact checking service known as “community notes.” “This is MASSIVE for accountability.”Comey, the former FBI director, has not been convicted of any crimes, and instead was indicted in April on two felony counts by Trump’s Justice Department over a photograph of seashells he posted on social media.“Felony ‘convictions.’ And this guy is running for Congress?” wrote retired Wisconsin sports journalist Jeff Potrykus Monday in a social media post on X to his nearly 35,000 followers. In response to Carbonara’s blatantly false claim, political commentator Alex Cole declared “MAGAs are dumb,” and Travis Akers, a retired U.S. Navy intelligence officer, plainly stated that Carbonara’s claim was “false.”Carbonara’s online post – which oddly included a video of Patel from late April – was also hit with a community note flagging its inaccuracy.“Kash Patel announced a grand jury indictment of James Comey on two felony counts, not convictions,” reads the crowd-sourced fact-checking service. “An indictment is not a conviction.”Felony “convictions.” And this guy is running for Congress? https://t.co/RY2QtHF7aE— Jeff Potrykus (@jaypo1961) June 22, 2026
President Donald Trump snapped at a CBS reporter on Monday after he claimed someone took a knife to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.Ed O'Keefe, CBS News' senior White House and political correspondent, asked Trump during an Oval Office press conference if he would share a photo or proof that the incident had happened. Trump responded with frustration."When you have a 350-foot slit, do you think that's proof?" Trump asked.O'Keefe pushed back."Reporters have been down there today looking for that slit you mentioned. There's no evidence," O'Keefe said.Trump suggested the parks department would have proof."But I saw it. They cut it, they cut it very violently," Trump argued."You write fake news," Trump told O'Keefe.Trump had ordered National Guard troops to the location and ramped up patrols at the National Mall after reports of damage and algae blooms turned the blue reflecting pool green after the multi-million dollar remodeling project. President Trump is claiming without evidence that vandals are responsible for recent problems facing the newly renovated Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. NBC News’ Gary Grumbach reports on the algae growth and peeling paint that are plaguing the landmark.
