Like most professional sports, Major League Baseball players have been forced to promote the LGBTQ community — especially during Pride Month. But this Pride Month things are changing, and gay baseball fans are not happy about it.In one article for the magazine “Out Sports” titled “Gay Giants fan’s heartbreaking letter shows the cost of the team’s Pride Night failure,” a fan laments the actions of several San Francisco Giants players who chose to do their own thing on Pride Night.“So this fan wrote a note to the San Francisco Giants ... about this incident that happened at their Pride Night festival,” BlazeTV host Stu Burguiere explains on “Stu Does America.” “Now as you may know, every Major League Baseball team has a Pride Night with the exception of the Texas Rangers.”While the team did celebrate Pride Night, multiple Giants players wore hats boasting Bible verses.“Signifying, ‘Hey, like you know this isn’t a thing that we want to be involved in, and we have a different opinion,’” Stu explains. The Bible verse in question “talks about the rainbow and how it was God’s sign.”The disgruntled fan wrote that he has been “a lifelong Giants fan for over 40 years,” beginning when he “attended games as a kid” and “arrived early to get autographs from players.”“As an LGBTQ athlete, I’ve had the honor of going to a Pride night or day for many years. I’ve also organized 200 plus softball players to attend the game annually,” he said.“I was unbelievably disappointed by the offensive and disrespectful actions of a few Giants players who chose to write a Bible verse on their hats that was meant to reclaim the rainbow as a Christian/Catholic symbol,” he continued.“Now, my understanding was the Bible came long before Pride Night. I don’t know if that’s accurate, Dave, historically, but I believe it is,” Stu says. The gay author went on to explain that in 1978, Gilbert Baker created the rainbow flag in San Francisco as a symbol of pride.“I will note 1978 is after the Bible came out,” Stu comments, pointing out that “not everything has to be about sex.”“Like you can actually have a sport where people come out and enjoy the sport,” he adds.Want more from Stu and Dave?To enjoy more of Stu and Dave's lethal blend of wit, humor, and insightful commentary subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.
Two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents stalked a New York woman at a polling place over a social media post identifying Jonathan Ross as the killer of Minnesota mother Renee Good. The federal immigration agents walked into an active polling site Tuesday in Syracuse to pressure an on-duty poll worker into deleting a social media post — an encounter that election officials say had no legal basis and that the woman involved called reminiscent of "1984," reported Syracuse.com.Paigelynne Gonyea was working at the Central Library during this week's primary election when two ICE agents asked to meet with her. Fearing for her safety if she met them alone, she invited them inside, where the agents handed her a form letter warning that threatening federal officials is a crime, citing an Instagram account they believed violated federal law.Gonyea believes the agents were targeting a January post in which she named Ross, the ICE agent identified in news reports as having shot Good during President Donald Trump's immigration surge in Minneapolis. Her post said she thought it would be "a great day for Jonathan to be indicted" — language she insists falls far short of doxxing or threatening violence, since Ross's name had already been widely reported."They tried to scare me into signing it while I was working," she said.Commissioner Dustin Czarny rushed to the site after receiving reports that ICE was inside a polling location, and pointed out that state election law restricts polling-place access to voters, workers, inspectors and voter assistants. “There’s no role for law enforcement officials to be inside a polling place unless they are responding to an emergency of some kind,” Czarny said. “There is no indication of that here.”Republican Commissioner Kevin Ryan confirmed with Homeland Security contacts that the visit did happen, but said agents told him Gonyea had invited them in herself.Gonyea says she has no intention of deleting the post and has since reached out to Rep. John Mannion (D-NY), Mayor Sharon Owens, the state attorney general's office, and the New York Civil Liberties Union."For ICE to come to me over a social media post just feels very 1984 to me," she said, adding that agents "should have known better" than to enter a polling place at all.One of the agents, identified as David Brody, declined to answer questions from a reporter.
A conservative commentator says President Donald Trump’s algae-green renovations of the Reflecting Pool offer a slew of metaphors to define his entire presidency.“The reflecting pool is a microcosm of nearly everything that vexes people about the second Trump term,” wrote The Dispatch’s Jonah Goldberg on Wednesday. “We can start with the decision to ignore the usual rules and procedures to give a no-bid job to a contractor for the repair and paintwork. Trump said it would cost $1.8 million. The costs have grown nearly tenfold. To deal with the insurrectionist algae, he gave another no-bid job to a Mar-a-Lago crony, campaign donor, and convicted felon who looks like a villain from the old Dick Tracy comic strip.”Goldberg added that “The man who vowed to ‘drain the swamp’ of D.C.’s corrupt cronyism used figurative swampy means to deliver literal swampy ends.”Yet in addition to symbolically manifesting Trump’s failure to drain the swamp as he promised to do, Goldberg said that the “pool fiasco” also demonstrates Trump’s inability to deliver on what he promises.“A project Trump touted as proof of his genius and expertise becomes proof of unpatriotic enemies undermining him when it flounders,” Goldberg wrote. “Without any evidence, Trump claimed that the only reason the reflecting pool’s paint is peeling and algae blooming is because anti-American ‘vandals’ sabotaged it with a ‘300-foot long gash.’”Additionally, Goldberg noted that Trump’s baseless excuse for the Reflecting Pool’s problems — namely, that vandals sabotaged his renovations (a charge which ignores internal documents proving that the administration had a number of logistical issues during the construction project) — are as absurd as so many other things he has said during his administration.“How vandals evaded National Park Police, security cameras, and his own National Guard deployment remains unknown,” Goldberg said. “Never mind how they put a 300-foot gash in a paint job Trump described as, ‘So very strong. You couldn't, if you had a knife—I don't want to give anybody ideas—if you had a knife, you can't even cut it. So strong, so powerful.’”Goldberg also pointed to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s absurd attempt to defend Trump’s renovations.“If you look at Washington and Lincoln, these are two men that faced monumental tasks and stood up in historic fashion and delivered for the American people,” Hegseth said. “And, when you step back and look at 47 years of what Iran waged … there’s only one man, over the course of both presidencies, who has stood up and said they will never get a nuclear weapon.”Goldberg is not the only right-wing commentator to blast Trump’s Reflecting Pool controversy as emblematic of his presidency. Political commentator David Rothkopf said something similar earlier this month.“It’s turned into a tourist attraction in downtown D.C. for people to hate on Trump, right? They come down, and they reflect on what a bad president they’ve got,” Rothkopf told The Daily Beast’s Joanna Coles. “And then he’s like, ‘Holy mackerel, this is a mess. What are we going to do?’”He compared this issue to other Trump failed renovations.“Who defaced the Oval Office?” Rothkopf said. “Who destroyed the East Wing? Who put a giant claw on the South Lawn of the White House? Who is building a gilded ballroom for billionaires to dance in while Americans starve? Who is building an arch to honor himself? Who’s covering all the horse statues in Washington in gold leaf?”
Most major sporting events do not live up to their names - literally, at least.
The day that honors the end of slavery was celebrated unanimously across most sports leagues, with some notable exceptions. One was the Detroit Lions, who confused fans with their decision not to post any materials in support of Juneteenth.'It must have been an accident.'Given that Juneteenth was first recognized as a holiday in 2021 by President Joe Biden, it is not unusual for the day to be overlooked by the common sports fan. For most pro sports teams though, every possible iteration of race or cultural politics typically gets marked down on the calendar. This was why football fans were confused when the Lions opted not to post anything for Juneteenth, with one Lions supporter assuming "it must have been an accident.""Just go look at the Lions profile picture," the fan noted; the Lions' X photo features transgender and gay pride colors. There was no mention of the new holiday from the National Hockey League either, Fox News reported. The league is only a week removed from the last game of the Stanley Cup Finals, so it is possible employees are on hiatus. However, the NHL has been deeply involved in diversity efforts for years — especially since the Black Lives Matter era — making this a strange move for the league as well.RELATED: SF Giants commentator compares gays to black people as 'oppressed' minority following Christian protest Diamond Images/Getty Images Some players in the league previously complained the NHL wasn't doing enough to support diversity, even after the hiring of a woman named Kim Davis to serve as the executive vice president of social impact, growth initiatives, and legislative affairs. With a goal to bring diversity to the league and its C-suite, Davis described hockey as a "tribe" that needs to "feel more welcoming."This eventually led to the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition, which has since wreaked havoc on the league with its initiatives.Blaze News previously reported on the league-wide controversies surrounding Pride jerseys, Pride tape, and player backlash.RELATED: Juneteenth only makes sense if natural law is real Carmen Mandato/Getty Images Still, NFL fans seemed split on the latest issue online, either dragging the Lions organization for not supporting Juneteenth or being puzzled as to why they support other progressive celebrations if they are able to avoid this one."I just find it wild that they can support LGBTQ but not black people especially since most of their team is Black," an X user wrote.Another reaction from the story had one fan saying they had grown to hate the "weird idea of social media telling teams what to do." With the Lions as the lone standout in the NFL, they join the Texas Rangers of the MLB who similarly are the only team in their league not to celebrate gay pride with a dedicated night. The Lions and the NHLPA, which runs the Player Inclusion Coalition along with the NHL, did not respond to a request for comment from Blaze News.Like Blaze News? A woman was allegedly issued a citation and escorted away from the reflecting pool on Monday after dipping her hand into the water, TMZ reported.Members of the National Guard, U.S. Marshals, and police officers were seen questioning her at the location, according to TMZ.
