President Donald Trump revealed new details Wednesday regarding a supposed phone call he had with former President Joe Biden following his 2020 election loss, one that he claimed was “well received,” but “not acted on.”Trump’s claim was couched in a lengthy rant shared on his social media platform Truth Social against Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1984 to 2022. Trump downplayed Fauci’s influence during his first administration, while alleging that Biden later made the health official a “king.”“Fauci was largely taken out of play, and then along came Sleepy Joe Biden, who made Fauci a ‘King!’” Trump wrote. “I called Biden to tell him Fauci was no good, either didn’t have a clue, or was dishonest. The call was well received, but sadly, not acted on. Biden went on to give Fauci vast destructive power. The rest is history!”Fauci has come under renewed scrutiny after the publication of his COVID-19 pandemic-era diary. He’s scheduled to testify before the Senate Homeland Security Committee Wednesday, where he’s expected to be questioned on his knowledge of gain of function research and the origins of the COVID-19 virus.“His ideas were CRAZY! Also, I said from the beginning that the Virus came from the Wuhan Laboratory in China. Fauci strongly disagreed, always trying to protect China. I Inherited Fauci, who was there since the 1980’s, but with each passing day, relied less and less on him,” Trump wrote. “He made too many bad calls, like on MASKS. Remember at the beginning he was an anti-masker. He then switched to a super-masker. In any event I didn’t let him shut the Country down, although he wanted to. I went the Federalist way, and let the governors decide. The Republican governors did a much better job than the Dumocrats.”

A political operative sounded the alarm on a Supreme Court justice whom he believes is President Donald Trump's chief enabler.During an episode of Court of History, journalist and former senior Clinton White House advisor Sidney Blumenthal explained the thinking behind a recent article he wrote for The Guardian about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh."When you look beneath the surface, and you see certain dissents and statements and opinions, you find that Kavanaugh is playing an instrumental key role on Trump's key issues," Blumenthal said. "And he's really the most politically attuned, the one who is acting most like a political operative, and the results are catastrophic."Blumenthal said that Kavanaugh has aligned himself with Trump's agenda when it comes to immigration, birthright citizenship and "damaging" tariffs.He pointed to Kavanaugh's concurrence that let immigration agents stop people based on factors including ethnic appearance, speaking Spanish, and working certain jobs, which Kavanaugh called "a relevant factor" and "common sense." The tactics later became known as "Kavanaugh stops," Blumenthal noted.When Trump appealed a decision that blocked his tariffs, the Supreme Court sided with a lower court decision that called Trump's claims "unconstitutional," Blumenthal said. "Kavanaugh, however, said, Well, not only is it not unconstitutional, let me suggest certain laws and other kinds of citations of tariffs that you could cite" to get around laws stopping Trump's tariffs."He was playing the staffer to Trump," Blumenthal said. "And then Trump attacked the majority on the court as fools and dogs. But then he said, 'Kavanaugh, I'm so proud of him.'"Blumenthal then pointed to Kavanaugh's "masterpiece of errors, factual revisionism and sophistry" on birthright citizenship, saying the justice built his case on speculation about what the framers of the 14th Amendment would have wanted."This is mind reading in a time machine about a non-existent legal category projected forward," Blumenthal said. "This is a fantastical fiction."

A legal expert is sounding the alarm on a Trump move that seeks the Supreme Court's help with a "nasty" power grab.During an episode of Talking Feds, former U.S. Attorney Harry Litman warned that the Trump administration is seeking to take away states' control of upcoming elections after filing an emergency application with the Supreme Court through the Solicitor General."It's their first effort to get the Supreme Court to weigh in on one of Trump's really pernicious ham-handed efforts to just wrest control of the voting process from states," Litman said. "It's about as nasty as it goes."Trump's Solicitor General filed an emergency Supreme Court application asking the court to vacate a lower-court injunction on an executive order restricting mail-in voting. The executive order would take effect before the November 3 midterms, according to Litman."This would be really cataclysmic for the election," Litman said. "The executive order itself was from a few months ago, and it gives the executive branch an unprecedented — and I think, in the reading of all courts so far — unconstitutional role in the elections."Litman added that Trump is doing it "in a way that would really disenfranchise millions of people, and disproportionately by a large margin, Democrats." He also pointed out that the emergency application is reaching the Supreme Court via the "shadow docket."Until now, the Trump administration "shied away" from appealing its voting losses, "so this is the first one, and surprise, surprise, it's by emergency docket...so now, really unfortunately, this goes boom into the court by the so-called shadow docket."The Supreme Court issued a briefing order after getting the emergency application that gives the states and other challengers until August 3 to file a response, Litman noted.

Jean Carroll, per reports.According to Axios and the New York Times, Trump's lawyers are asking the Supreme Court to overturn the $83.3 million loss to Carroll, the columnist who accused him of sexual assault.Trump has denied Carroll's claim that he sexually assaulted her in the 1990s, but he lost Carroll's defamation suit and an appeal in federal court. Now, his lawyers are arguing he's entitled to presidential immunity because he was president when he made defamatory comments against Carroll, per reporting by Axios."This is the first case in our nation's history in which a court has imposed damages liability on a president for his conduct in office," Trump's lawyers said in a court filing, according to reporting by the Times. Trump's lawyers are arguing that the question of the president's immunity is "straightforward on the undisputed factual record," an argument an appeals court rejected, per the Times.Trump's lawyers are also arguing that if the ruling stands, it will constitutionally weaken the power of future presidents by exposing them to liability for their statements made while in office, per Axios.Axios noted that this marks the second time in two months that the Supreme Court is dealing with Carroll-related litigation. In June, the Supreme Court declined to hear Trump's appeal of a $5 million verdict separate from the $83.3 million loss. Trump's team has also asked the Supreme Court to reconsider that judgment, Axios reported.
