Former U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino led the Trump administration’s militarized immigration crackdowns in Chicago, Los Angeles and Minneapolis. Bovino was eventually removed from his position in January after immigration agents under his command killed 37-year-old VA nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. We speak with Amanda Moore, a reporter who focuses on far-right extremism and state violence. She spent months following Bovino and the immigration crackdown in the United States for Mother Jones and other outlets. “[Border Patrol] would snipe us with rubber bullets from rooftops by the detention centers,” says Moore. We also get a comment from reporter Charles R. Davis about other right-wing figures in the Trump administration.
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is looking into selling some of the large warehouses that Immigration and Customs Enforcement had purchased earlier this year to serve as mega-detention centers for immigrants, according to two Department of Homeland Security officials
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) wants to sell huge warehouses it bought earlier this year with the intention of turning them into massive detention facilities, according to reporting by NBC News. ICE and its parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security, are considering selling "several" of its eleven warehouses purchased for more than $38 million this year, two DHS officials told NBC News. Some of the warehouses were expected to hold as many as 8,000 immigrants each, DHS officials told NBC News. Former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem planned to build out enough detention centers to incarcerate 100,000 immigrants at a time, in addition to existing facilities, NBC noted. The warehouses haven't been put on the market as the Trump administration hasn't made a final decision yet on whether to sell them, DHS officials told NBC News.
House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) was the sole Republican lawmaker present during a closed-door interview with former Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. According to MS NOW, the atmosphere was tense, with Bondi appearing frustrated during questioning. Rep. Melanie (D-NM) Stansbury criticized her Republican colleagues' absence, noting that, despite their stated commitment to justice for survivors, none traveled to attend the important interview. The questioning focused on redactions, withholding, and Ghislaine Maxwell's prison sentence. Legal experts suggest Republicans may have strategically scheduled the interview during congressional recess to limit tough questioning from their own party members, potentially to avoid pursuing additional subpoenas for current Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel.Watch the video below.
