Ebola outbreak risks becoming ‘deadliest on record’: Aid group

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) said Tuesday the Ebola outbreak in Congo risks becoming one of the “deadliest on record” if global health groups don’t prioritize containing the viral disease. The global nongovernmental organization (NGO) said the outbreak is spreading faster than the response as Congo and Uganda have already documented more than 900 suspected…
As Donald Trump celebrated Ken Paxton’s landslide win in Texas, Republican officials were busy gearing up for a brutal fight that may end up costing them more than $100 million to stop a Democrat from flipping a seat in a state the president won by 14 percentage points.
Americans who have visited Congo, South Sudan or Uganda in the past 21 days must reenter the country through select airports for enhanced screening during an Ebola outbreak in these African nations. Three airports are involved in the process: Washington Dulles International Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The screening process…
President Donald Trump's latest addition to this Cabinet has been caught out in a new potential scandal, according to the Daily Mail, with insider sources at the Department of Homeland Security exposing his alleged effort to land his wife a job.Markwayne Mullin was appointed as the new head of DHS following the acrimonious departure of Kristi Noem from the position. Since taking over, reports have indicated that he has impressed some within the Trump administration for his quieter and more professional style of leadership, in contrast to the showy chaos of his predecessor. That could be about to change, however, as the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday, what could turn into a bruising nepotism scandal for the secretary, as four insiders have come forward with allegations that he has attempted to get his wife, Christie Mullin, hired at the agency — and he has reportedly been quite insistent about it."Mullin, 48, is accused of trying to obtain government employee status for his wife, 47, so that he does not have to pay for her airline ticket when she flies, according to sources familiar with DHS and ICE," the Mail's report detailed. "The secretary frequently travels on his $70 million government jet to fly home to his family in Oklahoma, often leaving on Thursday mornings and not returning until the following Monday afternoon, multiple DHS insiders said."According to three of the sources who spoke to the outlet, Mullin has repeatedly floated the prospect of bringing his wife on as a Special Government Employee, a part-time consultant or temporary employee, allowing her to work a maximum of 130 days a year at a rate of $65-70 per hour.“He pitches the idea on the regular," one of the sources said. "While Mullin is busy trying to recruit his wife to DHS, ICE facilities are being overrun by leftist mobs, enraging the base ahead of midterms.”Another source insinuated that reports of Mullin's solid reputation at DHS might be a bit misleading, accusing him of trying to skirt his work and leaving key programs rudderless."Mullin seems to think DHS requires less work than a senator, and it shows," the source alleged. "Meanwhile, ICE has no direction.""The allegations come as flight logs obtained by the Daily Mail expose a pattern of frequent, lavish travel back to his home state of Oklahoma on a $70 million private government jet - even as his department faces intense scrutiny over a terrifying security failure," the report added. While Mullin was on hand alongside Trump at a press conference following the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting, the Mail alleged that he "was already preparing to make a swift exit from the capital.""It turns out, shortly after a briefing that left the public with no answers regarding the gunman's motive or the haunting possibility of a second shooter, Mullin fled Washington on his private jet, the Daily Mail can exclusively report," the outlet added. "The abrupt departure has raised serious questions about his leadership during one of the gravest security breaches in modern American history."

President Trump, 79, is reveling in a perfect endorsement track record for Republican House, Senate, and governor primary races that illustrate how his clout within the party is perhaps stronger than it's ever been in past cycles.
On Tuesday, Texas GOP voters elected to nominate Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his bid for Senate, but on Wednesday, political data strategist John Hagner flagged a telling marker buried within the election data that may spell disaster for Republicans in the midterm elections. In March, Texas held its primary election, during which around 2.3 million Democrats and 2.2 million Republicans cast their votes, the first time since 2020 that Democrats “voted in higher numbers than Republicans.” The GOP race for Senate kicked off a runoff election between Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) which was held on Tuesday, and the results, Hagner noted, spoke volumes.“If the [Associated Press] vote estimate for the runoff is accurate, it’s nearly a million votes less than the March Democratic primary and 900k less than the March Republican primary,” Hagner wrote in a social media post on X. “Divided and demoralized and choosing lunatics? Ok!”According to the unofficial election results from the Texas Secretary of State, close to 1.4 million GOP Texas voters cast their ballot Tuesday for either Paxton or Cornyn. Paxton received nearly 886,000 votes, and Cornyn, nearly 502,000.Back in March, Paxton received just over 883,000, and Cornyn, around 910,000. Conversely, Democratic Texas state Rep. James Talarico amassed over 1.2 million votes in the March Democratic primary. Those figures, as noted by Neera Tanden – who acted as a senior adviser to former President Joe Biden – were perhaps the “biggest story out of Texas” given its contrast to voter turnout in the March primary.“This is the biggest story out of Texas that everyone is missing,” Tanden wrote Wednesday in a social media post on X. “Far more people in Texas voted for Talarico than Paxton in their primaries. Obviously general elections are different, but a big enthusiasm gap between the two campaigns.”This is the biggest story out of Texas that everyone is missing.
