Engine failure on a U.S. Coast Guard plane carrying Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin prompted an emergency landing in Virginia.
The pilot told air traffic controllers in the Washington area that the airplane had 14 people on board. Mullin said the single-engine landing went smoothly.
“We just lost our right engine. We’d like to declare an emergency and [request] immediate landing at DCA,” the pilot radioed to aircraft control.
