Vice President Vance will head to Iowa later this month to host a pair of events ahead of the fall midterms, Axios has learned.Why it matters: Vance's April 30 appearances will be aimed at helping Republicans in this fall's elections. They'll also be part of his first visit to an early primary state ahead of a widely expected bid for president in 2028.Zoom out: Vance will appear with GOP Rep. Zach Nunn, who's in a swing district in southwestern Iowa and faces a stiff challenge from Democratic state Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott.Vance will also headline an event with Turning Point USA at Iowa State University in Ames.Vance was friends with TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, and has appeared at several of the organization's events since Kirk was assassinated. The VP attended the group's event at the University of Georgia on Tuesday.Zoom in: The vice president plans to campaign aggressively for Republican candidates ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms. Republicans are scrambling to keep control of Congress amid widespread voter dissatisfaction with President Trump's performance on the economy and the Iran war.Vance has held several events this year, including in Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Ohio — all of them likely to be key electoral states in the 2026 and 2028 elections. The vice president is also the Republican National Committee's finance chair, and recently hosted lucrative fundraisers in Texas and Northern Virginia.As the RNC's lead fundraiser, Vance has entrée to major GOP donors who could be helpful in a 2028 bid for the White House.What they're saying: "Vice President Vance's visit underscores that Iowans' interests will always be top of mind as long as Republicans are leading the country," White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair told Axios."Iowa is at the center of the fight for our majority," Nunn said in a statement, calling Vance's visit "a testament to the momentum we're building."
