Summary
President Donald Trump’s hand-picked replacement for outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is set to be scrutinized by lawmakers Wednesday morning during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.Trump ousted Noem as head of DHS earlier this month after internal frustrations mounted over her leadership and alleged affair with special government employee Corey Lewandowski. Trump’s revealed his replacement for Noem to be Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), long a loyal supporter of the president. Before Mullin assumes his position as head of DHS, however, he will need to be confirmed by Congress, with his testimony before the Senate Homeland Security Committee being the first step in the process.
