Summary
Chicagoans sent President Donald Trump a firm rebuke on Monday during the city's annual snowplow naming contest, according to a report. Local news station WTTW reported on Monday that the name "Abolish ICE" won the city's snowplow naming contest, which the outlet described as a "humorous pun to efforts to oppose ... Trump’s mass deportation effort." Other names in the running included Stephen Coldbert, Pope Frío XIV, The Blizzard of Oz, Svencoolie, and Caleb Chilliams, a reference to the starting quarterback of the Chicago Bears. The winning name will be given to one new snowplow in each of the city's six districts, according to the report. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson supported the "Abolish ICE" push to win the sweepstakes. "Johnson said Trump had used federal immigration agents to 'inflict terror and a great deal of harm' on Chicagoans and vowed to use the annual contest as part of his efforts to oppose the president’s efforts to deport millions of undocumented immigrants," according to the report. The sweepstakes occurred at a time when the Trump administration's immigration policies were facing significant scrutiny. In January, Trump's immigration forces shot and killed two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which sparked calls for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to either resign or be fired.
