‘Simply not right’: Bill Clinton blasts GOP in first remarks after deposition
Source: Raw Story · Bias: Far Left
Summary
Former President Bill Clinton released a video statement late Friday after testifying for six hours before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee, insisting he “had no idea” about Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and defending his wife for what he argued was “simply not right.” “I did it for two reasons,” Clinton said. “First, I love my country, including our Constitution. And America was built on the idea that no person is above the law, even presidents – especially presidents.” The former president added that democracy “requires every person to play their part” and expressed hope that his testimony would move the country “away from the brink” and back toward “truth and justice” rather than the “partisan urge to score points and create spectacle.”He said the second reason he testified was to offer “justice and healing” to the girls and women “whose lives Jeffery Epstein destroyed.”He then blasted Republicans for compelling Hillary Clinton to testify.“I also have to say something personal,” he said. “Republicans made Hillary testify yesterday, and she had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein. Nothing. She has no memory of ever even meeting him. She never traveled with him nor visited any of his properties.”“So whether 10 people or 10,000 people were subpoenaed, including her, was simply not right,” Clinton said. Addressing his own ties to Epstein, Clinton insisted he had “no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing.” He added, “I know what I saw and, more importantly, what I didn’t see…I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong.”The former president argued that not only would he never have flown on Epstein’s plane if he “had any inkling of what he was doing,” but he would’ve “turned him in myself.”Clinton ended by urging the Justice Department to “finally release all the files,” saying “The survivors deserve that.”My statement on today’s deposition. pic.twitter.com/1Yu6lBa5pS— Bill Clinton (@BillClinton) February 28, 2026
