Summary
A House Republican who helped kill a bill to release the records of sexual harassment allegations against lawmakers will lead the ethics probe of another House Republican who has been accused of sexually harassing his former aide, according to a press release. The House Ethics Committee announced on Thursday that Rep. Michael Guest (R-MI) will lead the investigation into Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX). Gonzalez has been accused of harassing his former aide, Regina Santos-Aviles, who later killed herself by self-immolation, according to reports. Guest previously opposed a resolution by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) that would have forced the House Ethics Committee, of which Guest is the chairman, to publicly release the panel's reports on sexual harassment. Guest told Axios on Wednesday that Mace's bill would be "detrimental" to the committee's investigations. Rep. Deborah Ross (D-NC) will serve as the ranking member on the investigative committee. Reps. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and Greg Stanton (D-AZ) will also serve on the committee.
