Not a serious team': White House's 'laughable' disaster claim rebuked on CNN

Summary
The White House's "laughable" claim about the recent spill in the Potomac River was rebuked on CNN by Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD).During her press briefing on Wednesday, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the White House was "preparing" to help Maryland officials clean up the Potomac River after more than 200 million gallons of wastewater were released into the river in January following a sewer line collapse. The White House swiftly blamed Democratic leaders in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., for the spill and said they need to ask for help before the federal government intervenes. Moore responded to the White House's claims during an interview on CNN's "The Arena" with Kasie Hunt. "What [Leavitt] says is laughable, and it continues to remind me that this is not a serious team that we're working with," Moore said. "We are talking about a D.C. pipe on federal land. The area that we're talking about has been under federal control for the past century. And so any indication or any insinuation that somehow this is a Maryland issue or a Virginia issue is ridiculous. This is a D.C. Pipe on federal land."Governor Moore: What Karoline Leavitt says is laughable, and it continues to remind me of this is not a serious team. We're talking about a D.C. Pipe on federal land. The area that we're talking about that has been under federal control for the past century. And so any indication… pic.twitter.com/UJkWlyLadM— Acyn (@Acyn) February 18, 2026
