Jaw-dropping polls deliver more bad news to Trump

Summary
A pair of new jaw-dropping polls delivered the news President Donald Trump fears most. According to two NBC News Decision Desk polls, 60% of Americans either somewhat or strongly disagree with the Trump administration's deportation operations in Minneapolis. The poll was conducted between Jan. 27 and Feb. 6, which was after Trump's immigration officers killed two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Trump's actions in the city were also strongly opposed by independent voters, a key voting bloc Republicans hoped to make inroads with ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. According to the polls, 80% of independents said Trump's actions "went too far" in the Twin Cities metro area. Around 98% of Democrats said the same thing, the poll showed. "Independents in the state were still more supportive of Trump than those nationwide," NBC News reported. "Four in 10 said they strongly or somewhat approved of Trump’s job, and roughly the same number approved of his handling of immigration and border security. That’s about 10 points higher than for independents nationwide."The polls were released as the Trump administration's immigration regime faced growing scrutiny. Reporting indicates that immigration officials have not been truthful about their efforts to monitor U.S. citizens. Meanwhile, the deaths of Good and Pretti renewed calls for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to either be fired or resign.
