President Donald Trump's negotiations with Iran have even stumped Fox News, The New Republic reported.Fox News host Brian Kilmeade grilled Trump during an interview Tuesday after the president had claimed talks were underway "right now," despite Iran’s foreign ministry saying the country has no interest in direct talks."We hear that you’re talking right now with leaders on Iran,” Kilmeade told Trump. “But Iran has come out publicly and said ‘we’re not talking to the U.S.—""Well, they just came out and said ‘we are talking’ a little while ago," Trump said, interjecting Kilmeade's comment. "So could you tell me who you’re talking to, Mr. President?" Kilmeade asked.Trump avoided directly answering the question."For some reason, we can be in the midst of a beautiful discussion, and they’ll come out and say 'we’re not talking' or 'we didn’t discuss nuclear,'" Trump said. "Well, that’s all we discussed, because they’ll never have a nuclear weapon, they understand that. We’ve had some very good talks."Trump then shifted the conversation to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). "It does not inspire confidence when the president can’t confidently say who he has been in contact with while supposedly trying to negotiate an end to his increasingly unpopular and expensive war," The New Republic reported. President Donald Trump's attempts to wage a trade war with Canada are "irrational," but, as a former deputy prime minister detailed in a New York Times piece, there is a deeper reason behind his attacks than just economics.Despite Canada being among the country's closest allies for centuries, Trump has nonetheless been extremely antagonistic toward it since returning to the White House, frequently threatening it with tariffs and often suggesting that it should be annexed as a new state. Most recently, he leveled a new 50 percent tariff against Canada in response to its supposed "discrimination" against American imports, while also threatening additional sanctions over its recent rash of wildfires.Chrystia Freeland previously served as Canada's deputy prime minister from 2019 to 2024 under Justin Trudeau. On Tuesday, she published an op-ed for the Times, in which she noted that blaming Canada for a laundry list of things, as Trump has done, "used to be such a fantastical idea that it was a joke," likening it to a famous bit from the long-running TV show, South Park. She also called the effort to start a trade war with Canada "truly absurd" for the U.S., given that the "trade relationship with its northern neighbor is very strong, and mutually beneficial.""The Trump White House knows that, because commerce between the two countries is governed by a trade agreement negotiated during the first Trump administration and lauded by the president himself as 'the best trade deal ever,'" Freeland argued. "Even politicians who were lifelong critics of free trade and opponents of Mr. Trump’s backed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement."Beneath the bluster, Freeland argued that Trump's attacks on Canada actually have "a clear purpose: to demonstrate who is dominant and who must submit.""As a U.S. counterpart told me during the U.S.M.C.A. negotiations in 2018, we are 10 times bigger than you, so we should get our way 10 times more than you do," she continued. "The laughably flimsy, constantly changing justifications for the president’s tariffs are in fact part of the point. True power is being able to do whatever you like for whatever reason you like, or for no reason at all ... You don’t need to have attended meetings in the Oval Office or have a degree in international relations to see that this is what is going on. The president has been his usual, utterly transparent self."She added later: "In other words, this isn’t about wine sales or how Canada manages its forests or reviving U.S. manufacturing. It’s about whether Canada is prepared to accept a profound change in its relationship with the United States. It’s about whether Canada is willing to go from being an ally and a partner, in a relationship governed by treaties and rules, to being a vassal, subject to Washington fiat — like the Venezuela of Delcy Rodríguez, only with snowdrifts and hockey."

Bari Weiss’ CBS News New York was forced to remove a line from its coverage of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani after journalist Judd Legum identified what he called a “brazen lie” about the progressive Democratic mayor, Legum reported Tuesday.CBS News’ report centered around a petition launched by Giovanni Galante, whose husband died in the 9/11 attacks, calling for Mamdani – who is Muslim – to stay away from the 25th remembrance ceremony of the attacks. As of Tuesday morning, the petition had more than 24,000 signatures.The conservative tabloid New York Post ran a report Sunday about the petition, and with the initial headline, according to Legum: “STAY AWAY: Thousands of 9/11 families demand Mamdani be banned from 25th-Anniversary.” On Monday, Legum said CBS News New York published a similar report, in which it claimed “thousands of 9/11 victims’ families” were asking Mamdani not to attend the ceremony.Writing in a report published Tuesday on Popular Information, his independent news publication, Legum noted that the New York Post’s report directly contradicted its own headline by claiming “at least 300 victims’ families” had signed the petition, despite the headline claiming it to have been “thousands.”To get to the bottom of the discrepancy, Legum conducted an interview with Galante, who went on to admit that no list existed regarding how many of the petition’s signatories were 9/11 victims’ families.“Rather, the 300 figure that organizers shared with the New York Post was an estimate based on how they believe the petition spread before it received much publicity,” Legum wrote.Galante went on to explain how organizers came to the 300 figure.“We all know each other, so…think about it. If you know 10 people and they give it to 10 more people they know that lost,” Galante said, according to Legum. “That’s how we got the 300 number. I don’t go through the list and look at the names.”Legum later contacted CBS News New York for comment regarding the apparent discrepancy, after which, he said, the outlet had amended its report.“After Popular Information reached out for comment, that line was removed,” Legum wrote. “A revised article on the CBS website says the petition has ‘purportedly drawn thousands of signatures, including some victims' families.’”Further supporting Legum’s claim that CBS News New York had amended its report was a Monday post on the publication’s Facebook page, which showed that the original caption retained the "thousands of 9/11 victims’ families” figure before being edited later that same night to “some 9/11 victims’ families.”1. A man drove a minivan into a crowd of people near Berlin’s Pride celebrations on Saturday, killing one person and injuring 29 others. Authorities shot and killed the man during an operation on Sunday. The alleged suspect was identified as Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen. According to authorities, Ballout tried to join the Islamic State in 2025 and was released from prison in May after being jailed for preparing an attack. “The far right here in Germany is, of course, waiting for an attack like this one to use it in order to highlight that the foreigners are the problem,” says Alfonso Pantisano, LGBTQ affairs commissioner for the Berlin state government. “By doing so, they completely forget and avoid to look at how much queerphobia there is in this country in all various levels of structures.”
