GOP senator buries Trump admin's 'horrible mistake' on CNN

Summary
A Senate Republican took the Trump administration to task on Tuesday during a new interview with CNN. Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) joined CNN's Kasie Hunt on "The Arena" to discuss the strike on an Iranian girls' school that killed about 175 civilians. Last week, a New York Times investigation revealed that American forces likely dropped the bomb on the school as military forces were operating in the area at the time the strike occurred. This week, President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have offered conflicting views about the strike, with Trump saying it didn't happen and Hegseth announcing that his agency is investigating the strike. Kennedy offered a more poignant view of the strike, calling it a "horrible mistake.""I'm not going to hide behind that," Kennedy told Hunt about Hegseth's claim that the Defense Department is investigating the strike. "I think it was a terrible, terrible mistake," he continued. "The investigation may prove me wrong. I hope so. The kids are still dead, but I think it was a horrible, horrible mistake. I wish it hadn't happened. I'm sorry it happened. I can assure you it wasn't intentional."Kennedy added that he didn't see any other possible explanation for the strike. "When you make a mistake, you should admit it," Kennedy said.
