Democrats are calling for an ethics investigation into Republican Congressmember Max Miller of Ohio, who is facing allegations of domestic abuse as he runs for reelection. Miller’s ex-wife Emily Moreno, daughter of Ohio Republican Senator Bernie Moreno, claims that Miller burned her by throwing hot water at her, held a gun to her head and fractured their 2-year-old daughter’s collarbone. Miller is also accused of abuse by former Trump White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, who was in a relationship with Miller prior to his marriage to Moreno. Mother Jones obtained around 2,000 pages of court filings and police reports pertaining to Miller, which include allegations dating back to high school. “There is an established pattern of multiple women claiming that they were abused by Congressman Max Miller,” says Abby Vesoulis, national politics reporter for Mother Jones.

A GOP governor is drawing a hard line against a key demand made by President Donald Trump ahead of midterms, per a report.According to reporting by NBC News, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott said during a panel on Friday that he will defend mail-in ballots despite Trump's efforts to limit them. Scott defended states' rights and rejected the idea of letting the federal government overhaul mail-in voting when asked about Trump's demand for Republicans to "nationalize" elections. "I would hope that all, if not the majority, of Democrats would agree that this is ours, not the federal government's," Scott said. "We were here before the federal government was, the states were, and so we formed the government. Now they're getting bloated, and we need to protect our rights."NBC News noted Trump's years-long fight against mail-in voting, which he falsely claims is rife with fraud and abuse. Trump also falsely stated that his stalled SAVE America Act would ban it, and a federal judge struck down one of his executive orders aimed at limiting mail-in ballots and creating federal voter rolls, a ruling Trump has asked the Supreme Court to lift before the midterms.Scott argued that the states' rights laid out in the 10th Amendment protect their mail-in voting system, per NBC News. The amendment is "clear on the role of the states in terms of elections," Scott said. "So I think that we should follow that, and we're closer to the people."States are "closer to our people," Scott continued. "We know what's right and what's wrong, and we can control the elections."He added that participation in mail-in voting has increased among GOP voters in his state and described it as popular with Vermont Republicans, which he said has led to a boost in GOP representation in the state Legislature, NBC News reported."In Vermont, I would have to say, mail-in ballots are popular. Who are they popular with? Republicans," Scott said.

A Trump administration official pushing for "retribution" against the president's enemies was formally accused of committing assault inside a State Department elevator.Gavin Wax, chief of staff to the State Department's undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs, is under formal investigation after a colleague filed a complaint accusing him of issuing a physical threat and shoving him inside an elevator at the agency's Washington headquarters, the Daily Mail reported.The State Department's Office of Special Investigations has opened a probe, the Daily Mail reported. A source told the Daily Mail the case could be referred to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution.Ali Motamedi, a special assistant to the U.S. special envoy to Greenland, says Wax confronted him in early July inside a basement elevator at the Harry S. Truman Building — the State Department's Washington headquarters — placing a hand on his chest as he delivered a threat."If you ever talk s— about me or my family again, I will beat the f— out of you," Wax allegedly said, according to the complaint obtained by the Daily Mail."He then forcefully pushed me before turning around and reentering the elevator," Motamedi wrote."For the record, I do not know what Mr. Wax was referring to with respect to his allegation that I had spoken about him or his family," Motamedi wrote in his complaint.The State Department declined to address the specifics, telling the Daily Mail, "We do not comment on internal personnel matters."A source told the Daily Mail the agency's own security cameras should have captured the encounter."I do believe that there is video evidence of this," the source said, noting the building has "multiple cameras, both inside and outside of any elevator…"A separate source told the Daily Mail there is no video or eyewitness evidence of physical violence."I would imagine that most people would be terminated for this sort of engagement," a source told the Daily Mail, adding the physical nature of the allegation takes it beyond routine personnel discipline.Sources inside the investigating office told the Daily Mail the case has moved unusually slowly, with concern that Wax "has the ear of Donald Trump." Another source pushed back, saying, "A lot of people claim to have a relationship with Trump and don't."It is the second time a fellow Trump official has accused Wax of threatening behavior in a signed document. Last October, Michael Bartels, a senior adviser at the Small Business Administration, signed a notarized affidavit saying Wax demanded he hand over a private Telegram chat log and threatened his professional standing when he refused, the Daily Mail reported. Wax denied being the source of a related leak and faced no known consequences.Wax spent six years as president of the New York Young Republican Club — the first Young Republican chapter to endorse Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, the Daily Mail reported. At the club's 2023 annual dinner, with President Donald Trump in the audience, Wax told supporters a reckoning was coming."Once President Trump is back in office, we won't be playing nice anymore. It will be a time for retribution," he said, according to Politico."Let me especially thank your president Gavin Wax," Trump said at the club's December 2023 gala, the Daily Mail reported."I've heard he's a very abrasive and difficult personality," a State Department source told the Daily Mail of Wax's reputation inside the building.

Fairfax County officials are facing heavy criticism after the suspect in a violent domestic dispute and an attack on a cop turned out to be an illegal immigrant who was never prosecuted despite allegedly attacking his wife in April.Officers responding to a domestic disturbance call attempted to arrest Nehemia Fuentes Banegas on Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed himself while threatening his wife. Fuentes Banegas then allegedly fled on foot, hid in a bush, and lunged for a police officer's service weapon in a frenzied ambush, according to police.'3 in 10 residents of the county are immigrants.'Fuentes Banegas was shot by officers in the ensuing struggle, though the bullet only grazed his shoulder. He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.Fuentes Banegas was previously cited for reckless driving and driving without a license, according to court records. His race was recorded as white. Fuentes Banegas is a Honduran national who illegally entered the country in 2022, according to the Department of Homeland Security.“This criminal illegal alien from Honduras attacked a law enforcement officer and attempted to take the officer’s gun,” DHS spokesperson Lauren Bis said in a statement. “He has now been charged with attempted disarming of a law enforcement officer.” “ICE is calling on Governor Abigail Spanberger and her fellow sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing this dangerous criminal from jail,” she continued.RELATED: DOJ goes to special court to send mother of terrorists back to Afghanistan Fairfax County J&DR Court DatabaseIn 2021, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano signed a procedure memorandum barring cooperation with federal immigration authorities.“To improve community safety, restore trust, and ensure all have equal protection of the law, employees of the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office shall not assist federal agents with civil immigration enforcement,” the memo reads. The document also notes that “3 in 10 residents of the county are immigrants.”Descano Chief of Staff Laura Birnbaum acknowledged that Fuentes Banegas recently faced other criminal charges. A warrant reveals he was accused of "imped[ing] the blood circulation or respiration of another person by knowingly, intentionally, and unlawfully blocking or obstructing the airway ... resulting in wounding or bodily injury."“Nehemia Fuentes faced charges earlier this year, but his wife, the victim in the case, indicated to prosecutors and other officials at a hearing in May that she did not want to prosecute at the time,” Birnbaum told Blaze News. “This kind of outcome is not uncommon in situations involving domestic violence, where prosecutors have little recourse if a case hinges on a victim’s testimony or cooperation.” Commonwealth of Virginia/Warrant of ArrestBirnbaum directed Blaze News to Sheriff Stacey Kincaid when asked if authorities notified ICE after Fuentes Banegas’ initial arrest.“As required by statute, whenever an undocumented person is booked into the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, ICE is notified that person has been taken into custody,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson told Blaze News. The Fairfax County Police Department directed Blaze News to its press release when reached for comment.“As they were responding to the scene, they encountered both the husband, our suspect, running from the scene and the wife pointing out to our responding patrol officers that, ‘Yes, that is in fact my husband,’” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said in a press conference.“Our suspect takes his right hand, he grabs the firearm that the police officer had in his hand,” Davis said. “The officer, obviously startled, discharged his firearm three times.”A trial date has yet to be set. Trump ranted, John Cornyn never had a problem with the so called 'fund,' which will not benefit me, but rather the great American patriots who were hunted down like dogs and whose lives were unfairly and illegally destroyed by the Crooked Joe Biden administration, until after I decided to endorse and support his Republican primary opponent in Texas, who easily won the nomination for the United States Senate."Indeed, the Justice Department announced on Monday, May 18 that it would create a nearly $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund." Trump endorsed Cornyn's opponent the following day, May 19. Cornyn lost his primary election five days later. "Perhaps there has never been a group of people treated so badly in our nation’s history," claimed Trump.Trump claimed many of those targeted "are suffering still, many ruined, and I felt that they should be given compensation for what has been done to them. I gave up any payments for myself, which would have been substantial, including for the illegal and unprecedented raid on Mar-a-Lago, my home in Florida, even though many legal experts, and others, including John Cornyn, said it was a shocking and disgusting display of 'weaponization' against me. Such an event has never happened before, and hopefully will never happen again!"While many former officeholders have been found to have government documents that should have been given to the National Archives, all of them returned the documents once they were found. Trump refused to turn over the documents, even after the National Archives said it would have to get the FBI involved if he wouldn't hand them over. "I will always feel that these victims of government abuse should be paid back for what they were forced to endure, their lives have been ruined! millions of people agree with me, as was proven in my landslide presidential win, where this was a major subject of debate, and so did John Cornyn, until he lost his election to an opponent that I endorsed. Todd Blanche, a good man, should be immediately approved as U.S. attorney general. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"While the note wasn't directed at Tillis, he responded anyway, repeating the president's words to reinforce his point. "The president made it clear today that the so-called 'anti-weaponization fund' is still alive, which is exactly why we are attempting to formally end it. While I never disagreed that the Biden administration pursued a number of vindictive prosecutions related to January 6, the criminals who assaulted police officers and defiled our nation’s Capitol are not 'great American patriots' who are 'victims of government abuse,'" Tillis wrote on X. He pressed further saying, "anyone who attacked law enforcement should still be in prison, not getting a check from the federal government."Polls taken days before the pardons showed that Americans overwhelmingly opposed his pardons of the Jan. 6 attackers. The States United Democracy Center showed that 66 percent opposed pardons for those who violently assaulted police and 65 percent opposed pardons for those who committed other violent crimes. "Senator Cornyn and I have been working with Acting AG Todd Blanche to end the 'anti-weaponization fund,' and he has been forthright, thoughtful and patient," said Tillis. "It’s a shame his confirmation has hit a snag only because an incompetent personal advisor to the president refuses to amend the bogus settlement. I will continue working in good faith to put an end this legal and political albatross and prevent any potential misallocation of taxpayer dollars."Tillis made a similar comment on Thursday, saying he didn't believe that Trump was the one pressing for the fund. Trump then responded on Truth Social that indeed, he wanted the fund.

John Cornyn (R-TX) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) from appointing Todd Blanche as the permanent attorney general.But their opposition is just the tip of the iceberg, conservative journalist David Drucker told MS NOW's Laura Barron-Lopez on "The Moment" Friday — and the first signs of a broader revolt brewing in the GOP.Barron-Lopez started by asking Drucker whether the White House is "concerned at all" about a gathering resistance, to which he said there are signs of exactly that."This is one of those rare instances in this Congress where we saw widespread rejection among Republican senators, and even Republicans in the House of Representatives, having to do with this so-called anti-weaponization fund," said Drucker, adding that the fund's purpose of "cover[ing] the president and his family against ... future legal action and things" is a bridge too far for many."I don't think you're going to see a lot of give on this," Drucker continued. "Cornyn and Tillis, two outgoing senators, are out front on this, but they're not alone on an island.
