Analyst reacts to Trump official's on-air slip-up

Summary
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, appeared on NBC News' "Meet the Press" on Sunday to defend the president's war against Iran. Waltz slipped on air and revealed a shocking admission, according to analyst Will Saletan. When pressed by host Kristen Welker about targeting civilian infrastructure, Waltz initially began saying "civilians" before correcting himself to describe "co-mingled" infrastructure used to move military hardware as "absolutely a legitimate target." In a video published Monday by The Bulwark’s YouTube channel, Saletan highlighted the slip, noting Waltz caught himself before fully endorsing civilian targeting. Since President Donald Trump authorized the Iran war less than two months ago, the U.S. has conducted attacks on Iranian civilian sites, including bombing the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls' elementary school, killing 156 civilians, 120 of whom were children. Human Rights Watch found no evidence that the school served military purposes. Additionally, the New York Times reported the U.S. may have violated its own rules of war by relocating servicemembers from bases to civilian hotels in the Middle East.Watch the video below.
