President Donald Trump's disastrous trip to the NBA Finals was not just a public humiliation for him, because according to one cognitive health expert, it also showed a dire sign of his potential "sundowning" cognitive decline for the entire world to see.Amid the New York Knicks' historic run, Trump opted to return to his hometown of New York City to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday evening. The decision turned into a nightmare for all involved: Trump was booed mercilessly when he was shown on the jumbotron during the national anthem; fans had to arrive hours early and go through heavier security checks to due the president's attendance; and, in what fans are chalking up to a "curse" caused by Trump, the Knicks lost their first game to the San Antonio Spurs after a 13-game winning streak. On top of all of that, Trump was once again caught on camera appearing to nod off while watching the game, this time in a much more high-intensity environment than the Oval Office events and Cabinet meetings where he has been caught falling asleep in the recent past.Aside from the embarrassment, this incident also renewed concerns about Trump's seemingly declining health. Hilary Shae, a licensed speech and language pathologist who frequently comments on Trump's cognitive condition, released a new video on Tuesday explaining why this latest nap might be yet more evidence that he is dealing with dementia and "sundowning behavior."Shae explained that what makes this incident more notable than others was the fact that Trump was surrounded by noise and commotion at Madison Square Garden, circumstances under which a person with healthy cognitive function would struggle to nod off."When people have dementia, and they have sundowning behavior, what happens is they get lots of this confusion, this agitation, their whole time clock is messed up because of their suprachiasmatic nucleus being deteriorated and their circadian rhythm is just not aware of what's going on," Shae explained. She noted that Trump, in recent days, has likely been off his normal schedule and encountered situations that could potentially have messed with his head, including gloomy weather during a trip to Wisconsin — which she previously noted can cause disorientation in dementia patients — and his disastrous interview with NBC News, where he stormed off early after being aggravated by tough questions. All of this might have left Trump unable to use his environment to set his internal clock. She further explained that someone falling asleep in such a high-stimulus environment as a basketball game is doing so because their brain is "shutting down.""Their brain no longer has the cognitive and physical and emotional energy to function, and it just shuts itself down," she added. "His brain could not keep him awake even in one of the most stimulating environments that we could possibly put him in."
President Donald Trump threatened a military response to the downing of a U.S. Army helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz. The two crew members were rescued in the first-ever sea drone operation conducted by the U.S. military, and the president blamed the crash on an attack by Iran."I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz," Trump posted Tuesday afternoon on Truth Social. "There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"CENTCOM has previously stated the U.S. Army AH-64 Apache went down near the coast of Oman while patrolling regional waters and that the cause of the incident remained under investigation.A fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran appeared to hold Tuesday despite the two countries trading military strikes Sunday and Monday, and Israel has continued its parallel strikes against Iranian-backed Hezbollah forces in Lebanon.
The following statement was issued by Richard Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance, regarding the Trustees’ reports on the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds released today. The report states that the Social Security Trust Fund is able to pay full benefits and expenses until 2032, while the Medicare Trust Fund is projected to remain solvent until 2033. If Congress does not make any changes, the Social Security Trust Fund will only be able to pay 78% of scheduled benefits to all current and future beneficiaries. “The new Social Security Trustees Report serves as a warning. Congress must act to increase revenue into the Social Security system. This will prevent current and future beneficiaries from losing roughly $500 a month in Social Security benefits they have earned over a lifetime of work in just six years. “The wrong response is to continue down President Trump and congressional Republicans’ path: passing tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans that undermine Social Security's finances, and implementing tariffs and policies that harm our economy and put Americans out of work, while laying the groundwork to gut the program through benefit cuts, a higher retirement age, and privatization.“The right solution is simple, has broad support from the majority of Americans, and would fix Social Security's finances for the next 75 years. Today the wealthiest Americans benefit from a loophole that lets them stop paying Social Security tax after the first $184,500 they earn while the rest of us pay on every dollar we make. “This loophole is indefensible. Millionaires and billionaires should pay into Social Security at the same rate as everyone else. Closing this loophole would mean a strong, solvent Social Security for the next 75 years.”“A bankrupt Social Security system is not inevitable, and Americans should reject these scare tactics. However, any politician who refuses to make the wealthy pay their fair share is actively supporting cuts to earned benefits.” “We also urge Congress and the Administration to strengthen Medicare’s finances by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prices for more prescription drugs, holding Medicare Advantage insurance corporations accountable, and cracking down on practices that increase corporate profits without improving patient care.”
Today, more than 325 organizations including labor unions, advocates for seniors and people with disabilities, women’s rights organizations, and more, released an open letter to those seeking to reform the health care system, laying out why now is the time for Medicare for All. The letter is led by Public Citizen, National Nurses United, People’s Action Institute, Social Security Works, Physicians for a National Health Program, Labor Campaign for Single Payer, and Healthcare-NOW. Other signatories include Indivisible, MoveOn, and several prominent labor unions, including UAW, APWU, IFPTE, AFA-CWA, UE, Actors Equity, and more.Medicare for All is overwhelmingly popular and commands majority support nationwide, with 63 percent of all voters in favor, including 90 percent of Democratic voters. In Congress, more than half of the House Democratic Caucus now supports Medicare for All, and Senate legislation has added three co-sponsors since the last Congress. Some D.C. insiders are urging members of Congress and health care advocates to think small and prioritize incremental health care tweaks. This letter is a clear warning that half-measures will not meet the scale of the health care crisis. As health care costs soar, affordability is top of mind for American families, and it's a particularly important kitchen table issue ahead of the 2026 midterms. The American people need, and demand, Medicare for All. The letter reads, in part:“We may face a once-in-a-generation opportunity to legislate on health care in 2029. We need to rally behind the boldest possible reform, Medicare for All, that brings together the broadest possible movement. Now is not the time for overly complex incremental measures that prop up the same systems we’re seeing fail under the weight of attacks by Trump and Republicans. The American people are hungry for bold ideas that will transform fundamental institutions that have failed them for too long. And they are looking for leaders who will take on powerful interests and fight for working people. Now is the time to organize and inspire! Support for Medicare for All grows daily in our communities and in Congress. It’s our best path forward, and it’s rooted in real promise: everybody in, nobody out. A small minority of skeptical health care policy wonks may try to convince us to scale back, that structural change isn’t winnable. The reality is that alternate proposals don’t move us towards Medicare for All, complicate our already broken system, and allow corporations to continue profiting off the sick.”Check out the full list of organizations here."The massive momentum for Medicare for All should serve as a wakeup call to all who profit from our broken health care system and those who do their bidding," said Public Citizen Health Care Policy Advocate Eagan Kemp. "Everyday Americans are tired of watching the pigs at the health care trough gorge themselves day after day while hundreds of millions of people in the wealthiest country in the world suffer from inadequate access to care, delays and denials, and crushing medical debt. Medicare for All would end the ability of corporations to put greed ahead of people's needs and would finally guarantee than everyone in the U.S. can get the care they require. The movement for Medicare for All is growing by leaps and bounds because the people are demanding change. It is time those in power meet the moment and fight for the health care system we need and that the people are demanding, Medicare for All."
MS NOW host Rachel Maddow lavished in New York City’s “warm welcome” of President Trump, as she repeatedly played clips of Knicks fans booing the president at Madison Square Garden Monday evening ahead of Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Mayhem broke out Monday night on Manhattan’s 42nd Street as thousands of rowdy New York Knicks fans flooded the area outside an NBA Finals Game 3 watch party in Bryant Park. After a highly anticipated watch party outside Madison Square Garden was canceled due to heightened security for President Donald Trump’s attendance at the game, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a 5,000-person watch party in Bryant Park, which required attendees to register in advance.'Last night was another shameful display from individuals who are more interested in brawling with each other, ripping up street signs, and hurling objects at cops than supporting their team.'While the crowd inside the park was collected, thousands of fans who did not make it into the park began to wreak havoc on infrastructure, police officers, and other civilians.Police said about 7,000 people were at Bryant Park and the surrounding area as the chaos erupted.Multiple videos show people climbing scaffolding, walking on top of police vehicles, tearing down trees, engaging in fistfights, swarming a taxi cab, and aggressively shaking a bus stop signpost — detaching the sign in the process. That bus sign was later used as a weapon in a brawl between multiple fans before police intervened.Members of the crowd threw beer bottles at officers, which prompted the use of pepper spray. Multiple fans also attempted to climb a passing NYPD barricades truck while chanting, “Suck my d**k.”RELATED: 'USA!' chants rock Madison Square Garden as Trump attends NBA Finals Additional police officers were deployed in riot gear to disperse the crowd. The NYPD said 21 people were taken into custody, eight of whom were charged, while the other 13 were released with criminal court summonses for disorderly conduct. Two people were charged with assault on a police officer, while one man was charged with attempted assault on an officer, the NYPD added.Five police officers were reportedly injured as well.New York City Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry on Tuesday denounced the conduct: "Last night was another shameful display from individuals who are more interested in brawling with each other, ripping up street signs, and hurling objects at cops than supporting their team. We know New Yorkers are passionate about these NBA Finals, but police officers shouldn't have to endure a barrage of mayhem after every single game."Hendry added that "our elected leaders need to send a stronger message and make it crystal clear that this behavior won't be tolerated."The Knicks lost Game 3 to the Spurs 115-111 but still lead the series 2 games to 1. Game 4 is scheduled for Wednesday at Madison Square Garden, with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announcing that watch parties outside the venue are expected to resume.Like Blaze News?
