Albany erased ‘mother’ and ‘father’ from state law. Here’s what that really means

On June 2, the New York State Legislature passed bill A8382A/S9316 and sent it to Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY). The legislation systematically removes the words “mother” and “father” from New York’s Family Court Act, domestic relations law, child support statutes, and education law. It replaces them with the clinical terms “gestating parent” and “non-gestating parent.” […]
Senate Republicans are unlikely to take up a third budget reconciliation bill to advance more of President Donald Trump’s agenda. The development is sure to be unwelcome news for their counterparts in the House, who have advocated a third bill. The ambitious push from House Republicans for another party-line package in Trump’s second term, and […]

Vice President JD Vance announced Monday night that he had forwarded a criminal referral to the Justice Department (DOJ) regarding allegations of fraud against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Keith Ellison, the state’s attorney general.“I’ve referred these allegations to DOJ’s new Fraud Division for criminal investigation,” Vance said in a statement released on social media. “Minnesota state officials are not above the law, and if they facilitated fraud, lied under oath about what they knew, or harassed and [intimidated] whistleblowers, they must face justice.”Vance was tapped by President Donald Trump to become his “fraud czar,” and the announcement represents Vance’s first major referral for criminal investigation.Addressing alleged fraud has become a key priority in the second Trump administration, a priority that gained renewed attention in the wake of the controversial fraud investigation by influencer Nick Shirley into Somali daycares in Minnesota.I’ve referred these allegations to DOJ’s new Fraud Division for criminal investigation. President Donald Trump made his way to his home city of New York Monday to attend the NBA Finals game only to be met with thunderous boos by basketball fans, which, according to a former senior Trump administration official, genuinely upsets him.“Getting booed in public really gets to him,” said the ex-senior Trump official, speaking with Zeteo for its report Tuesday on the condition of anonymity. “When I worked with him, he would sometimes call me to complain about it, sometimes when I was trying to go to bed.”Trump’s announcement that he would be attending the NBA Finals game between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs sparked immediate backlash – including from prominent conservatives – over the disruptions his presence would cause to thousands of New Yorkers. Knicks fans told Trump over the weekend to instead “stay home,” and New Yorkers greeted Trump’s motorcade with “the loudest set of boos ever heard,” Balls & Strikes Editor in Chief Jay Willis claimed. And, according to a current White House official, it was well-known among those around the president that his attendance would be met with hostility.“We are headed into hostile territory,” said a White House official ahead of the NBA Finals game, also speaking with Zeteo on the condition of anonymity. As to why Trump would knowingly subject himself to such a public display of disapproval and “generate fodder for [his] enemies,” Zeteo’s Asawin Suebsaeng presented a theory.“Trump knew how big a deal Monday’s basketball game was, and his Blob-like ego couldn’t help but try to bask in the glow (the Knicks lost, by the way; and while it may be unfair to blame Trump, Knicks fans are not not blaming him),” Suebsaeng wrote. “Never mind that seemingly no one in the crowd wanted him there, and that people in attendance and outside the arena apparently agreed with the solid majority of Americans that his administration resplendently sucks. When the masses boo, it affects him. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”LOL if you thought the Trump boos were loud on TV, wait until you hear them from inside MSG.Video courtesy of Evan Roberts from WFAN on X.[image or embed]— TrumpsTaxes (@trumpstaxes.com) June 8, 2026 at 7:56 PM
Panelists on MS NOW's "Morning Joe" sounded the alarm over President Donald Trump's latest election fraud lies. The president had proclaimed that GOP candidates in the Los Angeles mayoral race, including former reality TV star Spencer Pratt, have been "cheated" after losing last week's primary election, and "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski was aghast that House Speaker Mike Johnson and other high-ranking Republicans are going along with his claims."It's diabolical," Brzezinski said. "Unless you are waiting to become speaker of the House, and then you patiently wait for California to come in, that is hypocrisy at the highest extreme, performative hypocrisy ... Explain for us how California's slow vote-counting process, which Mike Johnson is fine with when it benefits him, is now diabolical, even though it's driven by the state's heavy reliance on mail voting, and it delays the final results for 30 days. I don't get it."California is a large and populous state that relies heavily on mail-in voting that can take longer to count, and The Dispatch's David Drucker said Trump was exploiting that laborious process and the conservative social media bubble for his own political purposes."The city of LA is seven points more democratic than the state of California, so you tell me how a Spencer Pratt is supposed to win this race," Drucker said. "It's just exceedingly unlikely, and even though he mastered the attention economy of this campaign and had people all over the country and particularly in Washington thinking, 'How can this guy lose? Look at his ads.'"Trump's false claims about California's election have also been echoed by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), and the panelists lamented that Republicans are too afraid to challenge the president even when he's clearly lying."It really sucks for democracy," said Axios co-founder Jim VandeHei. "This is the stuff you see happen in a broken country, in a third-world country where they've not been able to govern effectively. Every time you call into question whether or not our elections are valid, you weaken the soul of the country, and that's why this is damaging."If the president or his GOP allies had evidence of fraud, VandeHei said they should present it, but he warned they appeared to be laying the groundwork to challenge potential election losses this fall – just as Trump attempted to overturn his own election loss in 2020."This is the 250th year of this country," said veteran diplomat Richard Haas. "Here we are, we're meant to be honoring celebrating the Declaration [of Independence], and we probably right now are facing, in some ways, the most concerted assault, potentially, hopefully it won't happen. But these rumblings, this is really worrisome stuff. This is preparing the ground, as you say, for serious pushback against, I think, the a free and fair election this November. So people ought to take this seriously." - YouTube youtu.be
Israel is continuing to carry out attacks on Lebanon amid ongoing talks between the U.S. and Iran to end the war. Iran is maintaining its demand that Lebanon be included in a ceasefire deal. Lylla Younes, an investigative journalist based in Beirut, says President Trump’s claims that he wants peace with Iran are “absurd” because the United States continues to support “Israel’s aggression in southern Lebanon.” She argues that “an angry phone call between Netanyahu and Donald Trump is ultimately meaningless” as long as Israel is granted “impunity and arms.” Younes also talks about reporting she did for Drop Site News on the ethnic cleansing in Ain Arab, a village in southern Lebanon.
